    • Beautiful and Sad.

Beautiful that you experience the Playa as you do

Sad that you are so affected by the world that you alter your self image for it 51 weeks a year.

    • The playa as an "equalizer"? Seriously?

I suppose if everyone brought a full staff (who went on strike) and pimped out RVs to Burning Man, it would be equal in the space of the basin.

But maybe I have the wrong privileged folks? Did Playa Barbie belong to the camp that brought vintage Cadillacs to the play as "art cars" and tried to pay off the staff, so they could register them onsite and drive them around? Maybe those are different rich folks...

I'm not hating on the Richie Rich's of the world (cause I spent £ to be there, too), but please don't talk rubbish like equality.

I don't think it's fair to dismiss Playa Barbie's comments as rubbish because she was describing her personal experience. Maybe the Playa is truly a great equalizer for her. As it so happens, it was a great equalizer for me.

When a dust storm hits, and you're not in your RV, you are equal in that moment to anyone else in that moment--money is not going to help you there! When you forget something important, money is not going to help (granted, you could drive to Reno, but it's not the same as being in your apartment in a city and needing to buy something--you can't just walk to a convenience store). Of course, as soon as you do drive back to Reno or where ever you came from, you've left Burning Man and traditional inequality resumes.

    • Like any product marketed and sold to the middle class, burning man attempts to fulfill a “perceived” need. The perceived need for a group experience, the need to be part of something or whatever, depending on the product. The burning man fad is marketing corporate propagandist’s tactics 101. Once an individual decides that the product, in this case “the experience of burning man” has value, BAM! Sold. The corporate propagandist’s that own and sell burning man know the demographic and psychological make-up of the people who will pay for the “burning man product” As human beings what do we really need? Shelter and some food, that is all. Everything beyond food and shelter are perceived needs.

God bless and may your life be filled with gratitude and humility.
