He divides the groups into three categories - hardsleepers, softsleepers and groupsleepers, and he has many at his website www.sleepingchinese.com.
The 40-year-old from Lemgo, central Germany, added: "Whenever I linger through the boomtown Shanghai, I carry my snap shot camera with me. Because at every corner you can discover people that either are napping in the strangest positions and situations, or are even snoring, while sunk in a deep sleep. Noteworthy are the missing mattresses and pillows!"
I always thought I was pretty good at sleeping but these photos are awesome. Follow the link for more photos!

Those photos are the kind of things people from the future are going to look at and wonder what the hell was going on with our generation.

Why bother going all the way home to sleep when there's a perfectly inviting.. bollard.. right where you're standing? Especially in the hot, hot summers.

I wonder if it's a slightly genetic as well as cultural thing - or maybe we're just too self-concious in the West? despite growing up in the UK and only being half Chinese, I've always been able to fall asleep pretty much anywhere, including at parties and in cafes (sometimes it's annoying when I'm sposed to be awake..). Can't say I can manage some of the crazy uncomfortable positions in that gallery though!
I've heard that it is similarly the case in India..

I always wished I were one of those people who could fall asleep anywhere. But no... it takes me at least an hour to fall asleep in my own bed! Cool photos.
