After 10 years of restoration, Raphael ready for viewing

Raphael's Madonna of the Goldfinch, considered by many to a Renaissance masterpiece, is finally returning to public view after 10 years of restoration. The painting will be hung in Florence, first at the Palazzo Medici before returning for good to the Uffizi Gallery. "We will celebrate it like the return of our prodigal daughter," Antonio Natali of the Uffizi said. The restoration aimed to fix several shattered areas, as well as remove layers of dirt to get the colours back to their original splendour. The piece was painted around 1506.
