Michelle Obama's election night dress - hit or miss?

What did you think of Michelle Obama's election night dress? The black and red number was a Narcisco Rodriguez design, paired with a black cardigan. It has been receiving mized reviews: “I voted for Obama, but I didn’t vote for that dress,” Jessica Bettencourt told the New York Times, while Julie Gilhart of Barneys New york said, “That dress was unpretentious. It said, ‘Be who you are — don’t let someone else tell you how to be.’ ”

I loved it - I thought the black-and-red getup of the whole family was simple and well-done.

    • I found the dress to be absolutely HIDEOUS! In fact as they were all on stage I kept thinking "what was she thinking!" This is an Historic moment for our Country and this is what she will be seen in the History books as wearing to her Husband's acceptance speech? I text messaged a friend about it and they felt the same way. I loved what the girls were wearing - was mesmerized by Obama's speech but this dress was a BIG MISS!!!

    • pssh she's never a miss.

but for real, i hated the dress. but really, i have never cared what she's worn. As long as she's not looking a mess, it's fine.

    • I thought it was a bold statement - like she had just made a sisterly / motherly "Slash & Dash" through each state McCain won and ended up in the victory parade.

    • It was wonderful with the splash of red against the black. It was also very unique and I loved the criss cross. I loved the simplicity and excitement and wrapped up in one!

    • First of all - to everyone saying "who cares?":
No, this isn't breaking news, but it's interesting and there are many of us that view fashion as an art form and who also ackowledge that one's personal style translates into how you are received.

On that note...I thought the dress was so-so.

On the one hand, it was unique, bold, and stylish.

On the other, it didn't do her figure justice. She is in good shape and the dress made her appear to bulge in areas where she doesn't bulge.

I am excited at the prospect of having a woman with a real body as a style icon first lady (she's got curves as well as a strong athletic build) and I hope she is able to celebrate that and flatter it.

    • It's a dress... who the hell cares? No offense to Michelle Obama, but I was not paying attention to her dress, I was paying attention to Barak's acceptance speech.

    • It drew attention away from everything and everybody else. Odd choice for such an event. The girls looked much more appropriate. Jill Biden won THIS fashion race. Nice suit, poppin' color.

    • THE DRESS WAS AUSOME AND A EXCELLENT CHOICE OF COLORS. and to those of you who did not like it...it seems to me that you need to take notes on a new fashion trend.... and to you---jessica bettencourt it seem that you have some psycological personal issues of jealousy and hate. i know a psycologist that i can refer you too......

    • Michelle is a tall, elegant woman that could wear even rags well. I would not have chosen that dress for myself because I'm a shorter woman than her and it would not have flattered my figure.

However, on Michelle I think it was beautiful. She obviously has her own sense of style, wears what flatters her tall figure and appeals to her personality.

I love that she is a natural, classy, unpretentious woman that is very bright and one that can truly support her husband on an intellectual level, plus she's a good mother.

When is the last time that we've had two people so well-rounded and talented occupying the White House. We should all be proud of the fact that Michelle is always looking to buy stylish, simple, elegant dresses. If a formal dress is on your list you may want to take a look at kekopeanstitches dot com
