hmm, some of these aren't really such a big deal, and others are just silly hybrid inventions I'm pretty sure no one today really wears anyway, right - I mean, why would you want a fake turtleneck collar?

I've always wondered why a wife beater was called a wife beater. Now here's a wiktionary entry so we know!
"As in Tennessee Williams play/film, "A Streetcar Named Desire," where main male character, Stanley Kowalski, was abusive towards his wife and sister-in-law and frequently wore sleeveless undershirts."
YAY etymology.
