Some Cool Converse Sneakers!

Image
DeliaTheArtist
My friend gave me a pair of white Converse and a Sharpie set for Christmas. And then this happened.

I hope Current is able to crop the picture properly; here is a link where you can checkity check them in detail: http://deliatheartist.deviantart.com/art/Cool-Converse-115539906

I think you are looking at this in a strange way. I don't understand how artists sharing their artwork makes Current "complete trash"... I'm not "peddling" these either, as I was not promoting them for people to buy, just to look at and comment on. What I don't understand is if I had found these and they were by some other artist, that would be OK to post? I see shoe and fashion related posts all the time; what is your beef about this?

Current IS a news site. There is a ton of news on this site! Some of it is political, some of it is movie news, some of it is art!

"I'll pass on posting my stuff here and I'll do it somewhere proper, I have too much self respect..." Obviously if the Current staffers are saying this is ok, it is COMPLETELY "proper". I don't see what NOT sharing your writing with us has to do with "self respect"- you have three people on this post telling you to go ahead and post your stories b/c we'd like to see them! You have too much self respect to gain fans and admirers?

It is only shameless because there is nothing to be ashamed of when it comes to sharing your creativitiy!

Also, I ASKED Mario to clarify if this was OK or not because I wanted to make sure I wasn't giving you false info about the terms of use here @ Current. It has nothing to do with favoritism! I told him that if I was in the wrong I would gladly remove the post and refrain from posting anything else like it.

What some people, like yourself, see as "falling far" I see as reinvention. Current has opened up it's page to include all kinds of topics and I think that's great; that way we don't have the "is this news" debate every 5 seconds, which is what was happening on old posts! Now people can pick and chose what pages they open; if you follow politics, go into news, if you follow movies, go into movies, if you are an artist, go into art! If you are like me, you go into all of them!

Posting news IS the intended use of this site, and that is not going to stop just because other uses have come into play! This is the internet- don't you think there is room for all interests?

    • @Ayahuasca2012 - I can certainly understand your questioning here, but as DeliaTheArtist pointed out, this is one of the reasons we've modified the homepage with popularity voting lists for specific channel sections.

What is new and interesting varies between channels, and this clearly falls into the realm of 'art and style'.

Additionally, note that this post was not tagged to the 'News' channel, if it had been we would've removed it from 'News' bit it still would be applicable in 'Art and Style'.

One last thing, you should submit short stories if you'd like to. Tag them with "short stories" and see if others start following suit.

      Thanks,
      Mario

Thanks for verifying that Current has turned into complete trash! So essentially what you are saying is "We gave up on being a news site because the stories that were dominating the top positions weren't what we wanted and now we just peddle whatever shit we can!" Really though, thanks for letting me know it's not really worth visiting Current anymore...

I never specifically said that this story was news, but that Current is generally accepted as a news site and I felt that shameless self promotion of ones art just isn't cool. It just seems to me there are plenty of sites to show off ones art and this isn't one of them. I'll pass on posting my stuff here and I'll do it somewhere proper, I have too much self respect...

Oh and it's also good to see how quickly the Current staff come to Delia's rescue... no favoritism there... really... none at all. ROFL!

This site has fallen so far... I fear it has a lot further to go. If one isn't openly proclaiming to be gay or atheist it seems you guys don't want us here and it's perfectly acceptable to call people like me a bigot or worse but if I speak out I get shut down by the staff (not this story but others) It's all very one sided and there's not much open mindedness going on around here. Good luck with that... but I fear it's going to be your downfall.

    • Pathetic... so now you are attempting to use Current to advertise and shamelessly self promote your "art"...

Yeah nice, you drew on some shoes... now let's everyone stop fellating Delia and expanding her ego and go back to real news.

I'm not trying to be mean... but is this the proper use of Current?

Fuck it, I'm just gonna start posting short stories and art too... or maybe I will respect the site and use it as it was intended...

Why did you put art in quotations? Are you implying it's somehow not art?

Actually, this kind of thing is exactly why they redid the Current homepage- not everything on the site is "news", so they wanted to separate things into specific genres. If you want "real news", click the NEWS tab!

Now, if I had found some cool art by a famous artist and posted it, that would be different? What IS the difference? I thought the Art and Style section was about...art and style. I think this is a completely appropriate use of the website. I recently posted my first pod, also about my art. This IS what Current is for, to connect to people and share your viewpoints and interests!

I think you should post your art and short stories. There is certainly no need to hate on me and call me "pathetic"!

Ayahuasca - Awesome how your hater post drew more attention to this article, but dude, if you look close, the first tag is 'Not News' and I pretty sure this right where it belongs- in the ART sections

      Very cool shoes DTA

I never said this story was posted as news... apparently some people have some reading comprehension problems around here... I said lets get back to real news, implying that posting ones art is taking away of the intended purpose of the site... which I just discovered (via Mario_A's coming to Delia's rescue) no longer exists...

Think what you want... but I'm not going to help turn this site into a place for people to post their art and I'm going vote down everyone I come across... There are a ton of sites for posting our art, do we really need to make Current one too?

    • Yeah, they were nice shoes when they were still American made, but I would never spend all that $$ for a pair of cheap canvas sneakers made in China....even if thet are Chuck Taylor All Stars......

Its like $42+ for a new pair from the store,so you can add or lower the price as you see fit no lower than $30 though.

You could make that into a business, where people come in with their converses and you design it for them, you have a great talent.

That talent could lead to something great.
