    • Amazing.
I really liked the fractal stuff for some reason, but all was interesting.
I know a girl online that does some intense stuff where it's so hard to tell where reality stops and fantasy begins...

There's a difference between basic photo manipulation, and totally taking something apart, layering it, changing so many variables, adding effects to each part as an individual, then like 50-100 or more layers later, you have art. A new creation in itself.

    • With all due respect to your art teacher, something's missing in that definition, which cheapens art. It's a common thing, and there are countless discussions, books and movies about the subject.
I was brought up during a few, formative years, by an aunt and uncle. He was a painter, printmaker, and a Professor of Fine Arts at Yale. He instilled in me that sense of value, how real art is uplifting. I guess it's a question of source, process, and the human quality of the artist, as well as just creativity. Where does it come from, what does it express? Is it just a means for evacuating stuff or a way to express harmony and beauty. Is it uplifting or just broadcasting a desire for attention.

    • On a basic, bare minimum level:

      "art   [ahrt] –noun
      1. the quality, production, expression, or realm, according to aesthetic principles, of what is beautiful, appealing, or of more than ordinary significance."

The word "art" has lost most of it's original meaning. There's no more transcendence, beauty. Give a stressed or traumatised child crayons and it will put out extraordinary images, that's a natural reflex to exacuate the inner tension, it's a therapeutic reflex, it's excremental in function and form. However clever, intellectually satisfying or even aesthetic it may be, self expression should not be confused with art. Real art is uplifting, it's source is harmony, not dysfunction, To label anything and everything as "art" is an unfortunate trait of our neurotic society with it's sensory bombardment.

That's funny. My art class taught me that art is recognized by three things: 1) That the artist created it with the idea of it being art 2) That others consider it to be art 3) That it has cultural or aesthetic themes that the viewer can relate to or appreciate.

People once considered abstract art to be uncivilized and crude. It was trampled under foot until a select few decided it was worth paying attention to. Now we have an entire museum dedicated to modern art. Photo manipulation art is just the next step in artistic direction.

Just because you don't consider it art doesn't make it any less real.

Gariji my friend... so many other words have lost it's original meaning in the english language, you can't necessarily go off a plain definition of a word anymore... that's the crazy thing about the english language, we don't just create a new word for things rather we manipulate the definition of a word we already have.

Art for an example has changed it's definition and I'm pretty sure if you looked in more than one dictionary you would see this. Actually since you got that definition from dictionary.com you should have already seen that it has.

These pictures can be put in one or more of those definitions.

      No offense, literally.
      Just need to open up.

    • Except for a few exceptions, the graphic design (wouldn't call it art) displayed here is technically brilliant but uninspiring. No emotion, just choatic collages. As if perturbed minds were were trying to evacuate neurotic build-up. Sort of (sorry,) esthetic, colorful mind-vomit.
