One part Captain Kirk’s chair (seriously, it’s just missing blinking buttons) and one part functional bookshelf, this HOI Magazine Chair is a project from Dutch furniture designers Jules & Jeremy. The general idea is pretty obvious: Free up some space on your coffee table or bookshelf by stuffing all your magazines into one location.

    • It's clever, but not a good design. Imagine trying to find a magazine that you would like to read while sitting in the chair, or trying to find a magazine before sitting in the chair. It would be an inconvenience. Most importantly, imagine what the chair would look like without it's magazines. It would look ridiculous. It needs magazines to complete it's overall design, and that is why I think it's a bad design.

If they renamed it to the photo copier chair they might be onto something. If you were making thousands of photocopies you could sort everything out into neat piles of 100.

Conversely, kudos to the furniture designers. They're very creative!

    • If you take away the front shelves, it's pretty cool. Innovation tends to cost, so the folks who would use it, probably won't be able ot affort one.

    • Pfff. Who the fuck reads magazines? Just throw a screen on one arm and a keyboard on the other.
