Capt. Jack Aubrey: "Would you call me an aged man-o-war, doctor? The Surprise is not old; no one would call her old. She has a bluff bow, lovely lines. She's a fine seabird: weatherly, stiff and fast... very fast, if she's well handled. No, she's not old; she's in her prime."
Called "she" because the rigging costs more than hull.

I saw this ship when it came down to Newport, Oregon; it is rather small. The ship I want is docked in Boston Harbor "Old Ironsides" aka "The USS Constitution".

I suppose it is seaworthy, as Henry Morgan was no fool, but I'd prefer a sloop-of-war myself.
Aye, lets become pirates, my lads, and ladies, and share in the booty... - 1 year ago

Was that Sir Francis Drake, (being a privateer obtaining his ship in the old fashioned way) or was it someone else who stole his ship?
If your ancestor was Sir Francis Drake, kudos to you for having such fine genetic material flying through your veins. Always admired that fellow. I also thought his house in the south of England was one of the finest houses I'd seen anywhere, anytime, (and being a typically obsessive architect, I've seen a lot of houses.) - 1 year ago
