It's an exhibition to see and to listen to the one that from January 14 to February 3, 2012, the Palazzo Reale in Palermo, the Sicilian Parliament building, dedicates to BIOS Vincent, a young artist from Trapani, who lives and works between China and Italy. "The wall sounds", curated by Martina Cavallarin, is BIOS first solo show in Palermo, expected return in his homeland after the recent artistic experiences in China, in Boston and Berlin.
The exhibition is under the patronage of the Sicilian District, the Sicilian Regional Assembly and the Fondazione Federico II, and promoted by Sicilian Association Promotion, with the contribution of Galleria Affiche Milan and Galleria 71 Palermo. Sponsored by URSA Italy SrL.
THE EXHIBITION
BIOS builds for Palazzo Reale a most unusual path, which runs from the lower floor, where the visitors are greeted by video with the artist's performative acts, to the central hall on the upper floor, where a labyrinthine installation consisting of more than 40 works envelops the visitors in large coils of matter by strong colors that take over and lead to the great wall entirely covered by a work of considerable emotional dimensions.
Facing the panels sprinkled with cement, perforated by bullets of various calibers, Magnum, sinkers, Lupara, and the wall installations with numbers, words, letters, signs violated by a specific and targeted use of firearms, the visitors are carried away by the echo of an invisible firearm shot, of answers ever given, of unexpected gifts, a disillusioned hope or an erased memory.
BIOS looks at the world from the hole inflicted by bullets on its surfaces and its art looks like self-taught, but rather is borrowed from a unique cultural journey from ancient manuscripts such as graphics or medieval literature, engravings, sacred art and an imaginary visionary - says exhibition curator Martina Cavallarin.
BIOS has a personal research that investigates the social dimension focusing on topics such as abortion, ecology, oppression, violence, physical and mental barriers through an art that uses performance - in which the hunters shoot virtually on its prey, a metaphor for excellence, or in which the artist portrays the "Pinocchio" and simulated crucifixions - and wall installations, paintings that becomes sculptures welcoming color, scarification, objects surrounded by numbers like logo - as the 194, a figure that evokes the number of abortion law in Italy - or words, letters written.
"Those of Vincent's are the walls of life, telling the story of men who have lived - writes the architect Michele Premoli Silva who designed the exhibition - Walls that, like those of houses in places of combat or conflict, marked by bursts of bullets that have carved their alphabet, remembering that broken lives. BIOS has chosen to tell the life of the world through the wall".
Accompanies the exhibition a prestigious catalog published by Fondazione Federico II Editore in three languages - Italian | English | Chinese - with critical essays by Martina Cavallarin | Micol Di Veroli | Michele Premoli Silva
