A good non-pro review of various tires that do fit and perform well for the rest of us, non lycra riders :)
-
(NY Times) Ramona Marks and Ted Liscinski, carless volunteers at a nonprofit bike repair shop in Los Angeles, the Bicycle Kitchen, tested five pairs of tires while commuting and running errands around the Southland.
The tires tested, in the order they appear (left to right) in the photo in the NY link/ above:

Hey meligrosa, what tires do you recommend for mountain bike that I use for riding to work on paved roads?

MrBigShot21:
the best transition from mt. bike tires to road tires in a mt. bike are slick ones. you just have to make sure they fit your bike (proper width etc.) so they also fit your brake callopers and dont interfere with the bike's structure. there is a good article also, recently posted in that bike commuters site that I sent you not 2long ago.
- It is always best to do a bit research and find out what works out best for you (ie. weather, frequent use etc) and if you trust a local dealer/ store ask the people at the shop for assistance.good riding!
