Great or not so Great Britain?

DaveHill
The government are trying to improve Britain's sense of national pride. But
is "Britishness" something inherent, or can it be taught?

    • Has the government created a problem where none previously existed?
What's wrong with being ambiguous about you nationality?

    • The only time I could ever say I've felt patriotism is when I watch England play football. As pants as they are I genuinely do want them to succeed and feel hurt when they let me down.

I guess that shows that I at least have a common identity with people around me - when I'm watching football at least. The problem is when there is blind patriotism, when people love their country no matter what it gets up to. The whole idea of a "nation-state" is a tricky one, when we say "I love my country" what do we mean? Is it the people? The physical place? Or the queen and all the ideology that goes with it?

They are the questions that blindly patriotic people usually cannot answer, for they simply love their country.

      Just my thoughts?
