LOST // Who are Adam and Eve?

You remember the episode, right? That moment? No, the other one.

Three words: Adam and Eve.

Just in case you forgot, way back in season 1 there was a Sun and Jin-centric episode titled "House of the Rising Sun." This was a pretty memorable episode for several reasons, but one tiny event took place within it's hour-long runtime that has been fodder for LOST speculation ever since. During a walk through the jungle, Charlie accidentally steps on a bee hive, and while rescuing him Kate ducks into a cave and discovers two decomposed bodies. Locke, being a man of faith, dubs them, "our very own Adam and Eve."

Producers Carlton Cuse and Damon Lindelof assured fans in an interview with EW.com's Doc Jensen that the identities of Adam and Eve are significant to not only the story of the island, but the integrity of the entire show:

QUESTION: What is the meaning or significance of the two skeletons that Jack and Kate found in the cave of season 1?

CUSE: The answer to that question goes to the nature of the timeline of the island. We don't want to say too much about it, but there are a couple Easter eggs embedded in "Not in Portland", one of which is an anagram that actually sheds some light on the skeletons and hits at a larger mythological mystery that will start to unfold later in the season.

LINDELOF: There were certain things we knew from the very beginning. Independent of ever knowing when the end was going to be, we knew what it was going to be, and we wanted to start setting it up as early as season 1, or else people would think that we were making it up as we were going along. So the skeletons are the living -- or, I guess, slowly decomposing -- proof of that. When all is said and done, people are going to point to the skeletons and say, "That is proof that from the very beginning, they always knew that they were going to do this."

Flash-forward to season 6, and the LOST fandom is eagerly awaiting answers. Having promised to reveal the identities of Adam and Eve, the LOST producers have given us the opportunity to speculate with real measurable results. So, I've compiled a list of potential candidates. Let's vote on them and see if the Current LOST community picks the right pairing before the reveal.

So, here's the plan. For the first stage of this I'm calling for suggestions to add to this list:

  1. Jack and Kate
  2. Sawyer and Kate
  3. Sun and Jin
  4. Desmond and Penelope
  5. Bernard and Rose
  6. Gerald and Karen DeGroot

Then, vote and comment on each pairing. Only vote up on one pairing, and vote all of the others down. When the reveal is made we'll see how close we were to being right!

    • The mystery was finally revealed last night. Was it an all or nothing vote? Or does dlinder get credit for being half right even if it was sarcastic?

It was Jacob's Rival but not Jacob just the woman that raised them both that were dubbed "Adam and Eve"

Since they showed those 2 stones that Jack found again and went into detail of their significance, I'm betting they are still going to be important, probably some kind of showdown game between Jack and Flocke for all the marbles.

I think everyone was just waiting for the answer to be revealed.

About the end of Lost, my money is on Jack and Flocke to have it out and Jack to be the next guardian of the Island. Then Desmond, Eloise and Widmore to bring the timelines together.

    • Aaron and Ji Yeon

      From Argon18:

"If the island moved back in time then the Oceanic 6 and anyone else will need to go back to that point in time. Aaron and Ji Yeon will grow up on the island but in the past. Because time course corrects there was never any direct evidence of the Oceanic 6 to be found by anyone on the island in seasons 1-4 (ranging from the castaways themselves, the Others, the Freighties, the Tailies, DHARMA Initiative, Danielle's science expedition, Desmond's arrival etc). Claire's dream way back in season one about Aaron's crib and Locke having one white eye and one black references this fate for Aaron. Aaron and Ji Yeon were both born under special circumstances. Aaron was conceived off the island but born on the island. Ji Yeon was conceived on the island but born off the island. In "The Lie", Sun comments that it would be nice if Aaron and Ji Yeon could play together."

Vote here if you think Aaron and Ji Yeon are Adam and Eve.

That interview was kinda confusing (yeah I know, what about Lost isn't?) So I went bak and watched the episodes they mentoned on Hulu.

The cave where they found the bodies was also where the french team encountered the Smoke Monster when Jin flashed back to 1988. In the 5th season episode "This Place is Death" So the ones that Locke called "Adam and Eve" might've been the bodies of Lacombe and Nadine.

      http://lostpedia.wikia.com/wiki/Adam_and_Eve/Theories

That is just a guess of my own but the Lostpedia has others besides the ones Mario mentioned including:

Daniel and Charlotte beacuse At one of the points where The Island is skipping through time, Charlotte dies when Daniel is alone with her. The next time Daniel is seen is the following episode and explains to the rest that Charlotte disappeared in a time flash, although this was never shown on camera. During this time, Daniel could have been moving Charlotte's body to the caves. Similarly, when Daniel is shot by his mother, she is reading his journal and seems intent to ensure his death was not in vain. It's possible that in his journal, he has recorded both his love for Charlotte and where he laid her to rest, leaving his mother to fill in the gaps and lay them to rest together. Lastly, Damon and Carlton said that Adam and Eve would be one of the clearest indications that they knew where the show was going from the start and having Adam and Eve being two characters who were introduced in Season Four would be a good way to show this.

Aaron and Ji Yeon Kwon since If the island moved back in time then the Oceanic 6 and anyone else will need to go back to that point in time. Aaron was conceived off the island but born on the island. Ji Yeon was conceived on the island but born off the island. In "The Lie", Sun comments that it would be nice if Aaron and Ji Yeon could play together.

    • Argon18:

I re-watched these episodes as well, and the cave was not the same spot the French team encountered the smoke monster. They encountered to smoke monster outside of the Temple. Remember, Hurley and crew bumped into the bodies of Lacombe and Nadine on their way into the temple during the second part of LA X. It wasn't the caves.

Aaron and Ji Yeon are an interesting combo...We should add them to the list.

Who? Just because the Dharma founders never actually turned up in the series doesn't mean that they are out of the running. Vote here for the DeGroots.

These two only have one goal, to die together. They already voiced their desire to live out their lives on the island...how far of a stretch could this be? Vote here for Bernard and Rose.

    • Desmond and Penelope

With hints at timelines (something Desmond is painfully accustomed to), and the stones found at the grave site (do some homework, review "Not in Portland" and keep an eye out for the stones), it would seem this is the likely couple. Vote now!

The parallel may be too good to resist -- Adam and Eve are introduced on a Sun and Jin-centric episode...could that be a clue? Vote here!
