Even tiger blood needs time to recharge.
In an interview with the New York Times this past Sunday, Charlie Sheen admitted that should his new show “Anger Management” fail or succeed, he plans to officially hang up his acting hat afterward (at least television wise). Although he’s grateful for the work he’s done in the past 30 years, “there’s a lot more out there to do than make-believe”.
More after the jump.
About leaving it all behind, he said:
“I’ve got a dream life as a direct result of television, you know? But at some point you just get tired of wearing somebody else’s clothes, saying somebody else’s words and working in somebody else’s space. I’m also aware of the fact that you don’t get these kinds of shots in the same lifetime.
You’re only supposed to have one hit show, unless you’re Kelsey Grammer. “When I’m done with this business it’s just going to be about soccer games and amusement parks [regarding his children]. And when this ends, I’m done. This is my swan song.”
He also spoke on the fact of his many well-known drug and alcohol binges, claiming that FX (the channel airing “Anger Management”) came to him with a request of performing random tests on him:
“I told them to go [away] with that one. It’s an invasion of privacy, man. Total invasion of privacy. If they say, ‘What’s going on?’ I’m like, I don’t know, what’s going on with you? ‘Well, you seem a little …’ Really, that’s your opinion? How does the work look? ‘Well, the work’s great but …’ Everything after ‘but’ is a dial tone. Go to hell.”
As for when Charlie goes into “retirement”, no one is really sure: because of the hype surrounding the show (based on the 2003 Adam Sander and Jack Nicholson film, with Charlie playing Jack’s character), there is talk that the network will pick up another 90 episodes to the already solidified 10-episode order.
