Rome, April 27 - An Italian farmer who has been waging a three-year battle to plant genetically modified (GM) maize told ANSA on Tuesday he would start sowing this week in a challenge to government and regional officials.
Giorgio Fidenato, secretary of pro-biotech farming association Futuragra said "planting GM crops is not illegal...it's the state which does not respect the law".
Last month, the Italian committee tasked with approving seed applications refused to authorize a request filed by Futuragra for the addition of a GM maize to its register.
