Warrantless Spying on Americans to continue.

LivingPong
The FISA Amendments Act http://intelligence.senate.gov/laws/pl110261.pdf is to be extended for another three years http://intelligence.senate.gov/pdfs112th/112174.pdf after a Senate committee approved it.

Sen. Ron Wyden has said he would lift his hold on the bill in exchange for a Senate floor vote on an amendment requiring the government to account for how many times Americans’ communications have been accepted, and another amendment prohibiting U.S. spy agencies from reviewing the communications of Americans ensnared in the program.

The Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA), enacted by Congress after the abuses of the 1960s and 70s, regulates the government’s conduct of intelligence surveillance inside the United States. It generally requires the government to seek warrants before monitoring Americans’ communications. In 2001, however, President Bush authorized the National Security Agency to launch a warrantless wiretapping program, and in 2008 Congress ratified and expanded that program, giving the NSA almost unchecked power to monitor Americans’ international phone calls and emails.
