Confronting the Bible's Ethnic Cleansing in Palestine: Zionism & the State of Israel

Dr. Prior is Professor of Biblical Studies in the University of Surrey, England, and visiting professor in Bethlehem University, Palestine. He is a biblical scholar and author of “Zionism and the State of Israel: A Moral Inquiry” and “The Bible and Colonialism: A Moral Critique.” Dr Prior is also a Catholic priest with a deep understanding of the issues in Israel and Palestine. Not only did he go there on numerous times to live with both, his Thesis outlines ethnic cleansing by the Israelis and how they distorted and changed history...

It is mid-October 2000; to date, at least 98 Palestinians and 7 Jews have been killed, and over 3,000, mostly Palestinians, injured in the Holy Land’s most recent unholiness. That’s the math of it.

It is, however, the morality of it that has engaged me over the past quarter of a century.
I would have been spared some pain had I not undertaken significant portions of my postgraduate biblical studies in the land of the Bible.

I have learned that, distinctively in the case of Zionist colonisation, a determined effort was made to rid the terrain altogether of the native population, since their presence in any number would frustrate the grand design of establishing a Jewish state. The necessity of removing the Arabs was recognised from the beginning of the Zionist enterprise — and advocated by all major Zionist ideologues from Theodor Herzl to Ehud Barak — and was meticulously planned and executed in 1948 and 1967. In their determination to present an unblemished record of the Zionist achievement, the fabricators of propagandistic Zionist history are among the most accomplished practitioners of the strange craft of source-doctoring, rewriting not only their history, but the documents upon which such a history was based. The propagandistic intent was to hide things said and done, and to bequeath to posterity only a sanitized version of the past.

Working against a background of bullet fire, and in the shadow of tanks, added a certain intensity to my research. Several bullets landed on the flat roof of Tantur on 25-26 September 1996. Two Palestinians, one a graduate of the University, were killed in Bethlehem, and many more, Palestinians and Israeli soldiers, were killed in the disturbances elsewhere in the West Bank.

Davies) excludes from his concern, “What happens when the understanding of the Promised Land in Judaism conflicts with the claims of the traditions and occupancy of its other peoples?” He excused himself by saying that to engage that issue would demand another volume, without indicating his intention of embarking upon such an enterprise.

"...and rambled on about the Zionists' intentions to bring benefits to the indigenous population, etc. Losing patience, I asked him to produce evidence for his claims, adding that not only was there not such evidence, but the evidence there was showed that the Zionist ideologues were virtually at one in their determination to rid the land of Arabs."

Severe climate change costs frightening forecast for U.S. States, World

The economic impact of climate change will cost a number of U.S. states billions of dollars, and delaying action will raise the price tag, concludes the latest series of reports produced by the University of Maryland's Center for Integrative Environmental Research.

Summary of state findings:

North Carolina: Most significant impact likely felt along the coastline, but damage to agriculture, forestry and manufacturing could also occur with total costs running into billions of dollars.

North Dakota: "If drought and flooding increase as predicted, crop and livestock productivity is likely to decrease. Climate change also may cause losses in the tourism industry and increase the cost of maintaining infrastructure," says the report. It also projects a decline in hydroelectric production capacity. Total losses could cost the state millions of dollars.

Pennsylvania: "Overall, climate change may create significant economic costs for infrastructure, manufacturing, water resources, and agriculture; forestry may see some economic benefits," says the CIER report. Total costs could run into billions of dollars.

Tennessee: Increases in temperature greater than the global average, a seven percent increase in precipitation, along with increases in extreme weather, are predicted for the state. The forestry sector may see some benefits from these changes, but the state's strained water resources may suffer, as may infrastructure, the hunting industry and public health. Economic losses could run into billions of dollars.

Here's an idea challenge for the Google 10 million dollar reward....think of a simple way to slow down the release of co2 into the atmosphere and to employ this all over the world. We cannot ignore this anymore. We all need to band together, nations, religions and people of all styles, to protect and repair mother earth. BOLOGNA - "Braccato dalle mafie e perseguitato dalle istituzioni". Così sintetizza la sua storia Pino Masciari, imprenditore calabrese che si è ribellato alle estorsioni e oggi alle sue accuse contro la 'ndrangheta aggiunge quelle al ministero dell'Interno, denunciando che gli è stata appena tolta la scorta. Masciari ha partecipato oggi ad una commissione consiliare del Comune di Bologna, richiesta da Cantiere, Verdi e Prc per conferirgli la cittadinanza onoraria della città.

Dopo i primi contatti con il pizzo, racconta Masciari a Palazzo D'Accursio, "quando hanno cominciato a chiedermi il 3% sui cantieri ho detto 'no', senza tentennare, 'non vi dò più un soldo'". Masciari diventa testimone di giustizia e dai primi anni '90 inizia la sua vita "da deportato" e la sua odissea. "Ho denunciato loro, ma anche il sistema politico, istituzionale e massonico che con loro fa affari". Nel 2004, il ministero gli comunica che non può più tornare nella sua terra, per "l'accertato pericolo di vita". I suoi "anche per andare a giocare o al catechismo- racconta con le lacrime agli occhi- devono chiedere l'autorizzazione". Qualcuno, continua, "ha pensato che io volessi entrare in politica, ma io sono solo un imprenditore e voglio solo fare l'imprenditore". Senza troppe illusioni: "Se il prezzo che devo pagare è la morte pagherò anche quello, ma non voglio essere un martire". L'appello di Masciari è asciutto e crudo. "Io non voglio morire- si sfoga al microfono- non voglio fare la fine di Libero Grassi", imprenditore siciliano ucciso dalla mafia nel 1991. Nonostante tutto dice di riporre ancora fiducia nella Costituzione, nelle forze dell'ordine e nelle istituzioni. E dalle stanze del Consiglio comunale di Bologna lancia due messaggi precisi.

"Combattere la mafia non c'entra niente con gli schieramenti politici- ricorda Masciari- le colpe ce le hanno tutti". E poi: "Loro sono anche qui, nel modenese, sono anche in Emilia-Romagna".

Sulla vicenda intervengono Pd, Fi e Sd. Tutti d'accordo sulla cittadinanza ma anche sulla necessità di "andare oltre". In Consiglio comunale, intanto, arriverà un odg unitario affidato alla presidente della commissione, Maria Cristina Marri dell'Udc ("Abbracciamo Masciari tutti insieme e vogliamo far sentire la nostra solidarietà autentica").

Presenti anche una quindicina di attivisti del meetup di Beppe Grillo. Sulle magliette: "Io sono amico di Pino Masciari" e una frase tratta dal suo blog, "Ogni persona che viene a conoscenza della mia storia, mi allunga la vita di un giorno".

Don't Get All Huffy About the Huffington Post

As Mark Gimein noted last week in The Big Money, the media giants have put the Web's journalistic "parasites"—blogs, aggregators, Google—on notice that they will no longer allow them to pinch their copy without reimbursement. The Associated Press has threatened legal action against thieves of its intellectual property, MediaNews executive (and AP Chairman) Dean Singleton has seconded that threat, and News Corp.'s Rupert Murdoch and Robert Thomson, the top editor of News Corp.'s Wall Street Journal, growl in harmony.

Their fury against the Web is not isolated. Pinch any journalist (print, Web, or broadcast) who creates what he considers original copy, and he's likely to regale you with the stories of how his publication's product has been stolen or otherwise misappropriated by a Web site. More often than not, the wronged will point his finger at the Huffington Post, the self-styled "Internet newspaper" launched by Arianna Huffington in 2005. When not accusing the Huff Post of outright theft, these angry writers and editors will seethe about how the site routinely abuses the "fair-use doctrine" by milking the essence out of other publications by lifting the salient paragraphs out of their stories.

Here's an example of the Huffington Post technique. To the aggrieved, it doesn't matter that the Huffington Post supplies a "Read the whole story here" link at the bottom of the lifted paragraph. It doesn't matter that attribution for the paragraph can be found if you know where to look for it on the cluttered page. They'll bluster that the damn page looks like original-to-Huffington Post copy, and they're pissed about being ripped off.

Just try to talk them down with the observation that Huff Post reporters Sam Stein, Ryan Grim, Jason Linkins, and Thomas B. Edsall do lots of original journalism on the site, and that the site pays for its Associated Press content, and that hundreds of bloggers submit their work directly to the site.
