Italian douchebag punched in the face
That award goes to Silvio Berlusconi, Prime Minister of Italy. This weekend the Italian leader was punched the faced in Milan.
A Facebook group with 75k members has emerged in support of the assailant, Massimo Tartaglia. Tartaglia has spent time in mental institutions, but his action resounds with many people who don't support Berlusconi's conservative politics.
Furthermore, the administration has asked that Facebook shutdown groups that praise the attacker be shutdown, as it might influence people with mental health problems to commit acts of violence.
Facebook groups have emerged in support of Berlusconi. One group has 400 thousand members. Interstingly, the Italian newspaper La Repubblica is reporting that this group membership is not organic. For example the group: "No a Facebook a pagamento (No fee for Facebook)" has become "Sosteniamo Silvio Berlusconi contro i fan di Massimo Tartaglia (Support against Silvio Berlusconi fans Massimo Tartaglia)"
I haven't seen this type of trickery since the group "UC Davis Greek Community" was renamed "Theta Xi, dudes who couldn't cut it, and chicks."
I suppose the Berlusconi administration is following that old saying "If someone punches you in the face, shutdown their Facebook.
