Offbeat News of the year

This story about Hayden Wright, the drunk 4-year old gift thief is a lot like a last minute winning bid on eBay. I think it may be one of the best stories of the year, and it just snuck in under the gun.

These are some of the other contenders for Best Odd News Story of the Year...

Crocodile instigates helicopter crash, live passenger buried in sand

An Australian pilot, became excited when he saw a crocodile over mudflats that he crashed his helicopter. Fearing that his injured passenger would catch hypothermia, the pilot buried him up to his head in the sand. The pilot suffered only mild injuries, but the passenger was seriously hurt in the crash.

No word on the whereabouts of the provoking croc.

Cops capture Prawo Jazdy, "the worst driver in Ireland"

Police in Ireland have been trying to crack the case of Prawo Jazdy, a terrible driver who has evaded authorities with a string of fake addresses. But as it turns out, "Prawo Jazdy" is Polish for "Driving License." The name "Prawo Jazdy" has been found at least 50 times in the system.

Man revives wife from coma, by nibbling on her toes

A Chinese man successfully woke his wife up from a 10-year coma, by biting her toes.

“I played the radio, sang and talked to her and even tickled her, but nothing worked. I then recalled someone saying that the feet are the home for many nerves. I wondered if I could wake her up by biting her feet."

Why isn't there more research into toe biting?

Man solves Rubik's cube after 26 years

After years of trying 45-year old Graham Parker has been able to finish the Rubik's cube.

"'I cannot tell you what a relief it was to finally solve it,' the 45-year-old from Portchester, Hampshire, said. 'It has driven me mad over the years – it felt like it had taken over my life. I have missed important events to stay in and solve it and I would lie awake at night thinking about it."

I can imagine the relief. I once spent a Saturday night in, trying to finish one, and never completed it. 26 years is crazy!

So... which story do you think is the oddest news item of the year?
