Thanks to the distinct patterns on its hide, the steer aptly named "Michigan" has escaped a fate on a plate.

One of 30 head of cattle on the Spaulding Township farm of Jacob D. and Georgia B. Kessler, the 2-year-old bovine features a Michigan mitten on its left side, with the right side bearing a U.

Farm Bureau Insurance bought the steer, now hailed as the "Famous Michigan Bovine," from the Kesslers.
