Seattle blaze might be the work of eco-terrorism?

I'm confused. Do the ELF not realize that massive fires are really bad for the environment? And that the homes are sure to have insurance on them, and will therefore just be rebuilt, meaning the end result they achieve is the house being built with the wood etc. twice instead of once, plus the damage from the fire?... Not the best tactic.

So what country should we bomb in response to this act of terrorism?

Are they extremist activists or are they terrorists? I hate using the word terrorist when it is not appropriate. Is it ever appropriate?

nickdotnet,
I have a suspicion that the act was carried out by domestic terrorist. I agree that terrorist acts like this does stir up some very sour emotions. After 9/11/2001, every time I drove by the Pentagon I would get sick to my stomach. - 4 years ago

mj - I agree. Let's bring them to justice! What country are they from....lets attack it, I'm sure it has some major city we can bomb - and I bet there's more terrorists there too....probably hiding in people's homes....so we should blow up their homes too...and their schools...and probably their churches cuz they're hiding under the pews....heck - lets nuke it!
- not a commentary on mj's comment, more on the American ideal of justice.

I guess we have to do whatever it takes to bring these criminals to justice. Terrorist acts like this are intolerable.

The FBI said in today's Seattle Times about ELF, "It's a leaderless ideology," he said. "Unlike traditional organized crime, it's a different animal. So anyone inspired by their message who commits violence against people or property ... that's an ELF act."

I am not so sure it was ELF. The way our world is now, it could be a group wanting ELF to be blamed to "fan the flames" so to speak.

Oh sure - say you're developing the properties and you're in hot water financially, or maybe going to be because of the economy - so you start a little fire to collect the insurance money and you plant a sign that suggests it's someone else.
Naw - those eco types are just idiots, so stupid for believing all that eco - global warming non-sense of course they'd go and do something like that. Sure, pollute the atmosphere.

The Seattle times reports that there were actually bombs inside. King 5 News shows a sign saying, "Built Green? Nope black! McMansions in RCDs r not green. ELF" The initials "RCD" refers to "rural cluster development."
As a Seattle Environmentalist, I want to outwardly condemn these acts as barbaric, and not representative of the environmentalist movement as a whole.

knee-jerk reaction, just like america invading Iraq to stop global terror, creating terror does not stop terror, it only strengthens it. To quote a great man "Fear leads to anger, anger leads to hate, hate leads to suffering"

Tori - I totally agree. I wonder if they aren't as concerned about the environmental affect as they are about the frustration of their action. Maybe they think that if they continue to weigh these types of strikes people will stop building, or start building green out of fear...seems hopefully narrow minded to me...
