Mexican Emos 'under attack'

The movement is being generated on internet message boards and social networking sites by non-emo youth who highly dislike like the emo look and attitude.
According to Daniel Hernanadez's blog, in which he has been keeping up to date with the emo-bashing Mexican antics, it begun about three weeks ago when "an estimated 800 young people poured into the city's Centro Historico hunting for emos to beat the crap out of." He goes onto state, "They found some."
Over the last few weeks the violence has spread across Mexico, with reported attacks sighted in Mexico City, Durango, Colima as well as others.
Check out some of these links and see if you can come up with an explanation as to why there has been such an increase in the amount of 'emo-bashings'.

We should all just stop trying to change people...so WHAT if the kids wear all black... so WHAT if the male wears his eyeliner...so WHAT if she DOES NOT like to reveal herself... that's not against the law, that's not against your God. SHOW ME IN THE BIBLE OR IN THE BILL OF RIGHTS WHERE IT SAYS WE CANNOT DRESS LIKE THIS, CANNOT BE LIKE THIS...
Just...worry about your own damn selves and stop being so stuck up...we are ALL PEOPLE...and we should TREAT EACHOTHER WITH REPECT.
...I seem to be the only logical person who believes in respecting people for WHO THEY ARE... why can't you all be?

robertogrijalva's video best bit is when the reporter says that after 5 hours of tension '...And Suddenly, as if it was all a joke or a surrealist movie...a group of Hare Krishna came out of the underground metro Station Insurgente...and belive or not, they dispersed attention' amongst the crowds.
Everyone calmed downed and left home/bar/park/somewhere else. Great!
All I heard from Punks is that 'Emos are copying their style'. Too little.Let's do some research, when some time left.

Liberal_Extinction I personally fail to see the point you are trying to make here. The link between the behaviour of the child shouting at his mother and some young people who prefer to dress a little differently is very very tenuous. Almost nonsensical.
Attacking people because they choose to dress a little differently, or even taking away from their right to do that is much more peculiar than even deciding to listen to dreary music and wear dark clothes and makeup. The emo way of life certainly isnt for me but I'm glad large numbers of people go against the grain in a world that is slowly headed towards cultural homogenisation.
People who attack those who chose alternative lifestyles and forms of expression are usually themselves repressed (i'm not suggesting this about anyone on here) but it is often the result of a lack of choices in their own life about how they decide to be. They have to conform and those who dont conform like they do anger them deep down in some way.
I'm seeing a vague connection here about communities of people who are different from the mainstream where they live. Perhaps I dont feel the same pressures in my life now as I did when I was younger. I live in central London where all forms of expression are visible and tolerated. I grew up in Liverpool which I'm afraid doesn't have the same culture and up there kids who chose an emo way of life would have had a hard time too.

Meh, I'm not impressed by people that go out of their way to dress like a freak, they're just begging for attention. I wouldn't walk up and beat the shit out of them for it though. Their lazy ass parents probably need a good thrashin' though. Seriously, WTF is up with people now? I watched some lady at my work get yelled at by her son and that woman went running like he was the boss. I wanted to beat the kids ass for her...

IT IS NOT A CLASS ISSUE!
what's happening in mexico and other parts of the world is HOMOPHOBIA/XENOPHOBIA disguised as some sort of bigger cultural issue to somehow justify it! can't you all see that it's GAY BASHING? all those who are annoyed by 'emos' all say the same thing about them! "pussies" "wimps" "fags" "freaks" ...
class issue. psh. it's bigotry and don't try to hide it by making it out as some worthy cause!

I love the photograph of the emo's at the top of the page - the two young people look artistic and beautiful, and their eye make-up is outstanding. I also love their sexual ambiguity. I say thank goodness for their creativity, individuality, courage, and eccentricity! I think emo's are brave to want standout from the herd and express themselves as artistic canvasses.

Somewhat related to this is the story in the UK of two young men attacking a young couple in a park because they happened to be Goths. The girl asked them to stop beating her boyfriend so they kicked her in the head so much she later died.
Two local teenage boys have been found guilty of murder and are expected to recieve life sentences. Brendan Harris and Ryan Herbet would normally have their identities protected under UK law but the judge in the case has released their names such is the gravity of their crime.
According to some UK newspapers, the police officer leading the investigation said one young man and his mother laughed and joked during questioning about the murder. Neither took the issue seriously.
Perhaps losing most of his adult life behind bars will give him time to think about what he has done.

emo: how else could nerdy wimpy skinny guys get chicks? all you need to do is get tight jeans, pierce your lip, cover half of your face and all of a sudden, you're hot! and, how else could fat chicks look cute? all you have to do is get a white belt, dye your hair black, cover half of your face, and voila! you're hotter from an angle!
=D
as far as this being a class thing...that's wrong. kids into emo fashion and music come from all ilks. plus, anyone who subscribes to the stereotype that they're all sad and cut themselves and gay and listen to screamo obviously doesn't know a thing about postpunk subculture. really though...
btw, flock of seagulls wasn't emo. johnny cash was proto-emo. elliot smith was proto-emo. fugazi was proto-emo. joy division and the smiths were proto-emo. THE BEATLES were proto-emo! the mixture of all obscure garage hardcore/punk bands and clothing style are all part of the real emo subculture which were brought together through shows.
but, somehow, it's been demonized by a select few who are actually 'glam' and 'posers' (those who are mainstream 'emo' wannabes) who take their myspace pictures like a religion, shop at hot topic, and dress the part even though they have no clue or even like emo-punk. now, it's simply become a fad for nerdy kids to have a community. we should just let them.

i've been paying close attention to the threads on this. and it is not the emo that the Mexican culture despises.
elgraba has it correct. the situation is more of a class differential. the emos spend money on hair highlights, fancy clothes, and a lot of other rubbish while the upturn in the cost of corn on the world market has led the poor in mexico (which is more than 50% of the population) to do without many staples of their regular diet.
to label this as a genocide severely underscores the cultures that have been victimized by genocide. you need to take a history lesson. 6 million Jews is genocide, half a million Sudanese dead is a genocide. one dead emo on the street is a homicide. sad, ignorant and unnecessary to be sure, but it is not a genocide.
emo is not new (flock of seagulls?), neither is the distaste for things that are different.
emo still sucks, but people are people (especially when they are harmless teenagers).

Its weird...Its like emo is a whole new demographic. Its like gay bashing. But I guess it makes sense. I've seen many anti-emo people on the internet and in everyday life and I guess when people start hating an entire group of people simply because they are a part of that group eventually things like this are going to happen. It's ignorant and its wrong and its so sad that people still think like this.

"emo" is a threat against evil - kids are being misled into thinking that just wearing chuck's and skinny jeans and having a manicured haircut is dark - it isn't - it is BS . thing is - i was up at Petco the other day wanting to buy a spike studded collar for my pit and they had all been shoplifted - actually , the rack where the collars used to be is now protected by a security bar , requiring a key , and someone had actually pried it open - while shoplifting collars qualifies as entry level evil , that initial evil is defeated when the only time the shoplifter wears the collar ( as a choker or wrist band ) is when they're at starbucks or the mall bragging about how cool they are to be wearing a lifted piece instead of buying it at hot-topic - as if not buying it at hot-topic is cool , and evil - it is not - and the next pencil necked emo poser i see with a collar on big enough to fit my pit puppy is gonna get jacked - now that , that is evil - gotta keep it real .

diversity is cool, i think anyone not tolerant to these people should first learn about their culture. Y'all are just looking in from the outside, like many americano do, why don't you just all expand you mind and then be critics.
I love their style, very "different", maybe that is why many folks are jealous of them.
Hope many other diverse groups, fashion, or culture arise to challenge the "normal".

Pity the poor emo's. I was just in Guadalajara, Jalisco over the Christmas holiday and every time I saw them, they were always hanging out at the big, fancy malls where all the rich, white (of European descent) people shop. I was of course taking public transportation unlike the emos in their brand new cars. I don't condone the violence against the emos but this is more about the poor majority fighting back against the rich minority.

wright on, pressrecord. I was thinking the same thing!
The other thing about the situation is that its taking place in Mexico where piercing and other things associated with the emo look is a new phenomenon. In the US and Europe we see a Emo kid and we say, "I remember those days," were in Mexico the whole machismo and gay-fearing mentality kicks in. And in a mob/gang mentality it can spread just as bad as nigger bashing in the south back in the day. It all just adds to tolerance and awareness.

these people are just annoyed at the sideways fringe haircuts and trendy piercings because they are counter-cultural...and everyone is looking for an excuse to be violent against those who can't protect themselves (mob mentality).

Well, this ''Emo'' phenomenon seems nothing more than just a step back in evolution, this trend is noting more than an 80's reoccurance, and quite frankly it's stupid and silly, and this fad is psychotically driven by ''Music'' and the propogation of an ''Emo'' message in the fashion and music industries based on sadness, depression, death and suicide all under the guise of ''Love'' but the ''Emo Kid'' is far from it, hence his malencholy depressed like appearance, it's a cry for something they've lost. Emotions just get in the way.......
