COLUMBUS, Ohio — A man was arrested early Thursday after police said he tried to run over two officers on bicycles.

Two officers were patrolling near East 18th Avenue and High Street, near the Ohio State campus, at 2 a.m. when they approached a driver who was playing loud music, 10TV's Tino Ramos reported.

The driver fled and the officers attempted to follow him on their bicycles. When they cornered him, the driver turned his vehicle toward the officers.

"He actually at one point tried to run over one of the bicycle officers," said Columbus police Sgt. Steve Livingston. "In the process of attempting to run down one of the officers, he bounced off the wall while trying to get away."

    • I agree with edbr. This is not a story about people disrespecting bicyclists. This is a story about people disrespecting police officers who happen to be on bikes. Regardless of the theme of the story, the man could have ended up killing columbus police officers. That is not cool. They are out there risking their lives to protect us.

    • stopnoise, if this were really about respecting pedestrians and cyclists, then it wouldn't be the cops that stepped in front of the moving vehicle.

cops will step in front of your moving vehicle and charge you with assault of a peace officer!! even if you're nowhere close to hitting them!

if the police officer was legitimately NOT attempting to step in front of the car (which the story clearly indicates he did intentionally move in front of the car, since the car hit the wall) then i could understand your point.

i do agree that there are a crapload of drivers who have no respect for cyclists and pedestrians; however, using the police as a victim gains no sympathy on my behalf.

    • see, now i support legitimate stories about dumbass 4wheelers causing harm to 2wheelers. the problem with the original article is that cops are not a credible source. they stand to gain financially on this man being guilty of assault w/ a deadly. if he was just trying to get away, he'll only be liable for the ticket and eluding.

We all must ask ourselves how people got to be so rude and uneducated. We suppose to respect each others and share the road. Therefore, this attitude it is something that should be discouraged and drivers should know that will be tough consequences for not sharing the road and respecting pedestrians and cyclists.

    • because of loud music? are you kidding me?

"In the process of attempting to run down one of the officers, he bounced off the wall while trying to get away."

do you think he was really trying to hit the cop, since his car bounced off the wall? i bet he was just trying to get away, a cop moved in front of him, and then the cop states the guy was trying to hit him. bullshit.
