Another thing, I have to say I'm very thankful that my hometown still has a fairly strict noise-ordinance against that kind of junk. Apparently, Kansas City has at least a decent one too.
Here's a funny story for you. My boyfriend shared this one with me... a friend of ours, let's call him 'Steve', was driving in Kansas City one day, with his father. At one point, they got stuck waiting at a traffic light, at a very busy intersection, in front of some jerk who was blaring what we affectionately term, 'thumpa-thumpa garbage' reaallly loudly on his car stereo. Now, 'Steve' himself doesn't usually mind this kind of junk as much as we do. He even likes to listen to his own favorite stuff kind of loudly at times. But, this guy behind them was REEAALLLY blaring it HoRRibly! So, even 'Steve' was getting heavily irritated at this jerk. I guess his father was too, because he came up with a rather funny, if somewhat rather risky solution. I think it was rather appropriate, in a way.
His dad told him that, when the light turned green, he was to 'floor it'. 'Steve' did so, & his dad leaned out the window and threw a silver dollar, right at the guy's windshield! Spiderwebbed it. Personally, I would never waste that much money on a noise-monger... can't afford to.
Anyway, the KC cop that got called to the scene apparently thought 'Steve' & his dad did the right thing because, it was the noise-mongering idiot who wound up being told, "you asked for that!" and also got arrested for disturbing the peace, and probably also because he was getting rather belligerent with the cop, and was apparently wanted as a repeat-offender. The guy was probably suspected of being 'on something' too. I'm sure he was. I don't see how he could stand to be in his own vehicle with that crap blaring so loud, unless he was on something pretty gross.
At any rate, I figure it was only fitting that 'Steve's' dad did what he did, as he was probably thinking something like, "Hey, let's do to this guy's windshield what it feels like HE'S doing to our HEADS!" - - Go Dads!! - -

Interesting article... I note that it was the noise-mongering neighbor, (i.e. the one who was consistently insisting on blaring the loud stereo) who committed the murder. Why does this not surprise me? He was driving his poor neighbor crazy with that kind of crap but, apparently, he was driving himself psychotic, as well as deaf! That's a pretty serious way to end up in the slammer.
And, yes, MP3 players, headphones, & other 'private listening' devices are, by far, Much More neighbor & roommate friendly... just be sure you're not damaging your own ears... try to keep the volume as low as you can (and still hear your music or whatever), & remember to have your hearing checked at least once a year, if you can find a way to do it.
My boyfriend & I have both been sorely tempted to kill a few noise-mongers ourselves, so I'm halfway surprised it wasn't the other way around, or that they didn't wind up both killing each other! So far, we've been lucky in that we've been able to maintain at least enough control to prevent ourselves from doing anything that drastic!

MP3 players rule. At least they do not annoy the neighbors!

That's for sure! The only times I see people having a problem with them is on the bus or in a store when someone gets on, or comes in, & forgets to turn it down after having been out in traffic. Then you can sometimes hear the other person's music blaring through their headphones, even though they still have them on, & even if you're still wearing yours! That seems pretty crazy sometimes but, it reminds me to always check my volume! :-) Cute dog by the way... hope you two are still having fun somewhere! :-)
