Some days, I am ashamed to be an American. Today, I've been astonished and outraged by yesterday's 5-4 Supreme Court decision that prisoners have no constitutional right to DNA testing that might prove their innocence.

    • According to further comment the afore mentioned defendent was already given the chance to have a DNA test done and he refused.
Why? That's the reason more needs to be known.
If a defendent wants to pay for a DNA test while awaiting trial his lawyer should be able to get an ok.
I'm on the fence regarding a DNA test for every case. It could exonerate people that didn't do the crime. That's great. We spend an enormous amt of money keeping prisioners.
Why not do the DNA, probably cheaper than housing an innocent man. So from the government aspect it saves money. It also, means the police must continue to look for the one that did it.(So for them the case is not closed!!!) politics.
But there needs to be a limit.
Eventually everyones DNA will be on record and available for the legal system to access.
That bothers me. Why? I'm not sure.
