    • This program is great and has been a labor of love for Mayisha over the years. She has carried the weight of the program with out formal funding. Now we need your help. go to www.jrposse.com to make a donation.

    • This is one of my favorite pods on current (so far at least.) It's awesome to see children being encouraged to step outside of their everyday world. Not only are they exploring new realms but they are succeeding in them. Kudos to Ms Akbar for helping these kids to defy expectations!

    • The Compton Jr. Posse uses horses in Compton to make a big difference in how children view life. It is a powerful combination with great results. Check out the Compton Jr. Posse Home Page on the web.

    • Unfortunately Horses in the hood is a seperate orginazation helping troubled youth experience the joy of riding. The particular orginazation seen here is called Compton Jr Posse, they provide inner-city kids with an after school program that supports alternatives to gang and drug lifestyles. Please visit the website at www.jrposse.com

    • We need to donate to this organization because...

      Fact 1: Kids love horses.

Fact 2: It helps our society.

Why? Because it teaches kids responsibility, which will in turn make them good citizens. It also gives them hope. For example, my mom grew up around Compton with a lot of family problems and she has told me many times that the reason she graduated from college was because of her love for horses. She did not have family support in school so she found her motivation in her desire to own a horse one day.

    • A terrific example of New Journalism, this pod explores opportunities for success, hope and achievement amongst inner city youth in an otherwise gritty urban environment.

Mayisha Akbar is a modern day hero, and it would be awesome to hear more about her and even see her proliferate this program across the nation!
