Organizers of the 2008 Olympics in Beijing have published a list of ?prohibited objects? in the Olympic village where athletes will stay. To the surprise of many, Bibles are among the objects that will not be allowed. According to the Italian daily La Gazzetta dello Sport, organizers have cited ?security reasons? and have prohibited athletes from bearing any kind of religious symbol at Olympic facilities.

    • Satan is in the world. He will do anything to stop Christ for fulfilling his plan. This reminds me of the book Fahrenheit 451 how they banded books. Why ban a book? They do nothing but inform and profit one who reads it.

    • let's listen to the oppressed, not the oppressors (china 's
      dictators)

start by banning our allegiance and support of any kind to the Fascists
i will have to save up more money to purchase npn-china goods.
      what can you do?
P.S. --take holy god's scripture in your mind, and will. Which one of china's many interrogation-terrorisms can PROHIBIT it there?

    • Why can't they restrict it if they so desire. This is not something that anyone is required to attend. They have the freedom to choose just as you have the freedom to choose. You may not like the choice...but you always have one.

    • It's contrary to the spirit of Olympism to spread and display religious insignia. Olympics strive for peace and tolerance. Unfortunately, all of three Abrahamic
religions - Judaism, Christianity and Islam - give only a lip service to it. Besides, many portions of sacred books
spread intolerance, xenophobia, fear and violence.
In brief, by using hate inspired language.
Strict state/church separation is the only remedy left.
There is to much religion in this world. Keep it away at least over Olympics ...

    • Thankfully, the bible has been banned. It should be banned throughout the world. It is a work of fiction that has caused enormous death and destruction.

    • I don't own a bible and I'm not an Olympic athlete, but if I did and I were, I would want to bring it with me to the games.

      What else was prohibited?

    • It does seem a little unfair if God favors one nation. The olympics should be about athletics, not God. Why pray for an olympic victory? That removes the spirit of the games. Also, people shouldn't rely on God to win. In the end they'll be disappointed.

    • Bibles are outlawed in china as is the quoran and to a certain extent any religous text not originating in China. Even some bhudist texts are outlawed especialy in Tibet. Current has had several pieces documenting the struggles against religous persecution in china. Look up Kristy Wong, and Laura ling who both have pieces on religous discrimination in China and also just do a general search and I am sure you will find many more.

My city hosts many of the olympic trials for track and field, rowing, and swimming in America and as such there is a lot of outreach on the part of the olympic commitee and athletes here. I was lucky enough that when I was young I had the oportunity to meet some of our Olympic soccer (sorry, colts pats game today can't bear calling it footbal on such an occasion.) along with a great deal of other inner city youth. It was truly inspiring.

I don't see how an event meant to spread mutual cooperation between countries and to celebrate peaceful competition can be held in a country like China. Or how Iraq was allowed a team during the rule of Ude Husein as head of thier Olympic commitee for that matter.

    • if the Bible has taught us nothing else, and it hasn't, it's that girls should stick to girls sports, such as hot oil wrestling and foxy boxing and such and such. and besides we do the same thing with the quran.

    • yong1, I suppose that the Chinese don't want Bibles to be left behind and/or given to Chinese citizens, deeming that any form of Christianity that is not controlled by the Chinese government is a threat to domestic security.
