danielle - I am showing what is on-topic for people like myself. you just got here and are living a lifestyle removed from the actual china. I understand what you're trying to say, but until you've actually *experienced* what's going on, you won't know.
I have shown the good things and most people who do any research know that - what I won't put up with is a newbie who just gets here screaming for 'fair'. have your friends been kicked out? sent to prison? is it you having your door knocked on by the police? no. you're new and living the highest of expat lifestyles.
what will you all do after the games?

Wow! I never knew I was banned from listening to the VOA. We better let Washington know so that they can start jamming the signal because it is leaking into California. (Someone has yet to confiscate my S/W radio.) Our great firewall should also block the VOA website, because I can still listen to their stuff on-line. Oh, wait a minute, wrong country.

danielle - I'm not a journalist. what I am is someone who has been living here for 4+ years and has experienced the country, both good and bad, unlike some who's partner is on NBC's pay scale.

in his defense, it was raining outside and I just pulled the camera out - was my fault, I need to get closer.
funny thing was, my friend Kacey (the photographer) and Christine Lu (podcaster) both spoke quietly and no one seemed to mind, ha ha ha.
be nice to Nick and maybe, just maybe, I'll be able to talk him into sending us a report from inside Olympic Village (where he'll be the whole time) each week.

Apparently your friend is not a journalist. Although the audio wasn't great, his expression was also difficult to understand.

nice link, SDSteve - and....hmmmm, not doing a lot to get away from that 'police state' - or maybe I'm just lumping totally random things in.
light487 - you've hit on something that I'll bring up later today, good point.

They are really starting to crack down on the internet stuff... crazy stuff.
And just a quick comment on this Shanghai Diary:
It seems as though, and I could be horribly wrong so I apologise in advance if I am, the government is trying to make China = Beijing. You can't go anywhere except the places that they want you to go.. and therefore won't be able see anything that they don't want you to see. I would assume that anything outside the normal tourist areas and the olympic areas will be off limits to general public coming into the country by the time the first people arrive. - 3 years ago

SDSteve:
Well, from what I read in the linked China Daily article, they won't know who you are just your traffic as the tickets are anonymous.
