I think you've done an amazing job to express the positive aspects of how one person is trying to fight his way out of poverty and injustice. I find this pod highly well done, resourced, and personal. Thank you very much. There are several angles that increase visual art and I find this to be engaging and interesting. Amazing piece. Hope this airs soon. This is a way that you can continue to speak for those who cannot speak for themselves!

I appreciate all the comments and thank everyone.
I got a touching email from someone i do not know saying we journalist show only negative things about Salone. I just want to let that person know that exposing these kinds of issues is good for a better Salone and a better world. We must identify the problems to enable us find solutions to them.
My new boss Elvis at JHR suggested i expand this doc to an hour long and include the chain of the metal bizz. Chinese exporters are the backbone to the trade in Salone. I did not say anything about them in this doc because i chose to make Ali my subject and only concentration.
What do you all think?

An hour long documentary on this topic is an amazing idea, and given how good this short piece is I know you'd do an amazing job. I'd really like to see you expose the real criminals - the bobo beles and Chinese traders who exploit poverty for profit.

Nice job ABJ. I'm going to pass this one around so more people can see it.
Although it's a horrible, sad story, it made me miss Freetown...

ABJ. Yes. Good work in getting out into the field and showing how the scrap metal situation works. I've always wondered about those guys. They are in an unfortunate situation but highlighting an issue is the first step to change.
You had some really good CU on the scrap metal. Really liked both the opening and closing shots.
Keep it coming!

i'm sorry sarsonscampbell, but this problem is not unique. millions upon millions have this problem - poverty.
if anyone noticed in the film, the boys borrow money from the same people to which they sell their goods. it is the worst kind of contract. you can't sell your goods for market prices to get out of poverty and save for surplus because your contract makes you sell to the lender at less than market prices. this is the exploitation of the poorest by the poor. it is sad and something that micro-finance can help alleviate.

Good job Mr. Jalloh. This is what the media should be doing . Exposing such images from a small country with all the natural minerals may one day bring changes. i was expecting to see a brief summary on children from the upper class- i mean politicians with luxurous lives at expense of the country's resouces. I also wanted to see Jalloh on a live interview with Turay.
