Shoppers wanting some of the homely M&S ligerie, biscuits and jam in Shanghai will have to wait no longer, as Marks and Spencers opened their first branch in China this week. Apparently there was so much curiosity about the store that Shanghai shoppers thronged the place at its opening. The 40,000sq ft store on Nanjing West Road looks about the same as any other M&S anywhere, with a range of 'traditional goods', aimed "to attract consumers who still see Britain as a nation of gentlemen in bowler hats queueing in the fog."
