'Meh' makes it into the dictionary

Ehehehe. So that means I can now use it in english lit essays to describe what I think about certain books I'm reading!

we've been making up words as we go uhmm.... forever...

but I agree, I use this in the World of Interweb but I would def not say meh in real life... just like I wouldn't say def. Dictionary worthy? word worthy? not so much.

First "Bah", then "Chill ax", Now "Meh" i love it. Were so diverse, we get to decide what makes it in the dictionary. :D)

This is a sad attempt by the dictionary's publishers to encouraged people to buy their "especial edition" dictionary....meh

People could have picked a more exciting word.

I do not see what all the fuss is about, every language, including ours, changes with every generation.

Once, not long ago, hippy freaks changed the meaning of cool, and added groovy, and people were upset back then too. But seriously, do we all want to go around talking like Shakespeare? Or should we allow language to change as it is being used?

Makes sense to me.. so what is the opposite of meh, anyway?

Web users forging the new languages, "woot" and "meh" next I would presume would be "zerg" or "noob."

"Bah" is my word, and that's already in the dictionary.

I like this word and use it a great deal to express my indifference.
However, I feel it would be more appropriately located in a place such as the Urban Dictionary because it is not exactly a word, it is onomatopoeia.

I think it's great that the dictionary is keeping up with the times. I love slang and onomatopoeias so I think this is awesome!

It's pretty snobbish to think this symbolizes some kind of "downfall of our education" or "brain dead" population just because we are recognizing common phrases. All words are made up, why should the dictionary discriminate?

apparently the threshold for needing a word in the dictionary is lower than ever... to celebrate the downfall of our education system, i propose a term of my own to be added:

I don't like "meh" it seems like a hard word to say when your feeling in the "meh" kind of way. Try it..."meh". It's ridiculous.

Hm, it's a useful sound I guess, though it can really annoy me sometimes, especially with someone who uses it all the bloody time for no reason. grrrr. actually, richjim had it spot on.

I thought it was just an internet word. Maybe were all going to start saying laugh out loud for now on instead of really laughing.....MEH.

I didn't know the word apparently got popular through the Simpsons. Bart and Lisa used it to express indifference when their father Homer suggests a day trip.

I guess when people cannot use the dictionary to see how to spell words correctly the answer is to just put any new, brain-dead, overly-used expression into the dictionary so we can all be on the same page. One more sign of decline.

It's not a word its a sound, a kind of sigh. This is why I don't buy dictionaries and hence can't spell.

I hate this word so badly. When somebody uses it, everything goes into slow motion for me.

Their chin presses against their neck and shockwaves ripple through the excess flab. Their eyes narrow and cross slightly, making them look deranged and sweat glistens on their top lip. Without fail and without even realising, they always flick their tongue out of their mouth like a lizard and catch the beads but because it's slow motion, billowing droplets of saliva hurl themselves into space in every direction. If it was in real time I could run away but instead I'm rooted to the spot and I can't do anything to stop that sludgey "meeeeyeeeeuuurrrrrhhhhh" sound slithering into my ears.

This word is the epitome of smug and I'll never, ever buy a dictionary again as a probably-ineffectual passive protest.
