Porn Has Come a Long Way

Even without the controversy, anyone who uses the Internet owes a degree of debt to the business of porn. Whether you realize it or not, pornography on the Internet has driven some of the biggest developments in Web-based technology as the people involved in it seek to deliver bigger, bolder, and badder content to an audience willing to pony up billions upon billions in fees each year. Enthusiasts don't simply want to read salacious text or view still images, they want to interact. As one Web pioneer has said, "The first group to bring us computer-based scratch and sniff capability will no doubt be the purveyors of porn."
Yet it is not only impossible to divorce the controversy from pornography, it would almost be counter-productive to do so. Part of the appeal, for those who enjoy this kind of material, is its taboo nature - something to engage in privately, furtively, with the full knowledge that others we care about like a spouse, a boss, or our parents would heartily disapprove. Common sense and every marketing study ever done shows us that we are much more willing to spend big dollars on secret, illicit, or outright illegal or unsanctioned vices than we will on common ones. The guiltier the pleasure, the bigger the price tag.
Of the hundreds of arguments against the prevalence of pornography in our society, one of the loudest and most frequently voiced is that any content of this nature demeans women. It is perhaps the only point upon which both feminists and Christian fundamentalists agree.
While surfing around the other night I came across a video of dead movie stars. I watched it, it covered clear from Laurel and Hardy up Heath Ledger. It was about 5 minutes. Along side was one Dead porn stars, I played it. I was astonished at how many were dead, then I realized that there were at least five videos. The mortality rate of porn stars is outrageous. I also noticed that they all died of similar things, The men primarily died of AIDS or Liver cancer. The women primarily of suicide and automobile accidents. With some of each from murder. The next day I found an article which a lot of porn stars thought dead are actually still alive, and retired.
I am not someone who's views porn, so imagine my surprise when I viewed some. These girls are aren't the old skaggy gals from the 1970's. Hardly, most look like beautiful cheerleaders. I couldn't believe that such awesome looking ladies would have to do porn for a living. So,....All I can figure is that they must really like it, or they get paid much better than I thought.
Seeing Britney Spears performing oral sex, wow, 20 years ago that would ruined her career, I must be getting old.

People that will have sex with multiple strangers, much less for money, gross me out.
The more people you've slept with, the less attractive you are in my eyes. And since I've always done quite well in the bedroom without the twisted influence of porn's depiction of how women should act (if they are whores), I am pretty much disgusted with the way humans treat each other in porn.
Those people are not like me, and I see their behavior as selfish, short-sighted, and destructive. It hauntingly reminds me of addiction to an extent, and I find it depressing because those people don't have the long-term option of a loving relationship or family, so in the long-term in the context of society, they are highly damaged goods.
Watching goods get damaged doesn't do much for me.
I don't see sex, I see people whose behavior is an emotional, psychological, social time-bomb.
When I think of sex, I think of my version of sex, which is private, passionate, and respectful.
Say what you will about porn, but I dare say it ultimately destroys the lives of those who participate in it. But hey, if that's all your worth as a human being, that's all your worth.
There is a lack of respect or value amongst those people, and that contradicts what I stand for.
Although, with all the fat, ugly, usury people in the world, I'm not surprised many do not share my views, which is fine, just don't expect me to respect you.

"The Internet has changed everything".
This is true Katanajon. We see a great deal of material (like porn) that many of us would not have seen with out the Internet.
Is porn bad for the performers? I don't know. (I always thought being a cop would be bad for one's soul or psyche). I do know that women make much more money than men do in the porn industry.
I don't want to throw my hands in the air and say porn is crazy awful. But the Internet has changed everything, including our relationship with porn.
Also, if you look close, a great deal of porn is done by amateurs, people (couples) just having fun in front of a camera. One change is that we have released the voyeurs as well as the exhibitionists among us.

After viewing just a little it was obvious to me that most of these women chose to be doing this. Not ended up doing this. Take a look before acting like an authority.Because there is always the chance that you don't know what your talking about. My view was much as yours is now I am sure that I was wrong in my assumptions. The internet has changed everything, this is just one of them the truth may hurt but it is the truth none the less. Thus back to the point of the article, to get people to realize how things have changed via the net, not all things for the better. There seems to be no shame or stigma attached these days with anything anyone does. These young girls are bringing bank, you couldn't get them to quit with all the money in the world, they are in competition with each other, it is a regular workers guild, BTW is isn't all woman. There are as many maybe more men do this. So,....your feelings are valid, just not applicable in this scenario. You should research first before assuming the poster is just a ignorant perv. Nancy this wasn't directed at you.

Smart?!? You can't judge a book by it's cover! When you desperately need a way to survive and have no marketable skills, you will use whatever you have to survive! You remind me of my uncle who used to consort with ;prostitutes....he once told me had he been born a woman he would have been a prostitute just for the pleasure of it! Sick dog....I loved him, but I didn't agree with his outlook, especially since he had NO WAY of knowing or understanding the situation of women.

so why did you respect his opinion. it was clearly stupid and non informative. nancy dont let the dumb get you down. everyone deserves a say even the fools no matter how far off their opinion is. If there is one thing natural selection showed was that not everyone is strong. physically, or mentally.

I didn't mean smart for what their doing, I meant smart in general. Most of them seem to be pretty focused on their trade such as it is. Back in the day the porn star girls weren't like these. But I don't claim to be a expert on porn by any means, I was just commenting on how centralized and controlled it all seems to be.I mean their actresses not just broke ho's that need a fix. It obviously sucks I am sure but after listening to three interviews you get the feeling that these women know and like what their doing. And to the last poster your post is a self fulfilled prophecy you should that you aren't so smart by assuming I agree with or condone this sort of business. The whole point of the article was to show how messed up it is. Your opinion matter's not to anybody, I am sure.

We would have to define smart as I have know people who were very intelligent whom I did not define as smart. You may not be able to judge a book by it's cover, but you sure can by it's behavior. I have no doubt that many of the women in the trade are there expressly because they really had no viable or marketable skills.
There would be two components necessary to love this line of work. 1. a pure love of sex. 2. a lack of any sense of morality on a physical level. Unfortunately this seems to be the social trend of the day, or so the media will have us believe.
If your uncle consorted with the prostitutes he may have known them, he may not have, you can really have no idea. I have known men who did in fact know the women involved and some who even helped them with a hand up out of their plight. Your uncle is not alone in his lack of understanding. The numbers who comfortably judge anther's position without comprehension or understanding are many.

It is one of those professions that does not require an education to make great money...same thing with strippers. Like most things: It's about the money. If education were not so out of reach many more would reach in that direction.
Unfortunately in our youth we are often incapable of weighing the costs of such behavior. The amounts of promiscuity today is astounding in light of the cost.

Yes, but no other line of work provides such a high level of income as porn. I think our social policies run by people that have no respect for women are a large part of the problem. In other words, the very people against such (churches) are the very people that keep this kind of business going.

I think the women of porn today aren't the poor street girls of the past, most look fairly smart. And there must be really good money,or they enjoy it. Or both.

I really haven't been drawn to internet porn, or any kind of porn. I guess my love life is full enough as is. I'm not sure that I want images of other stuff floating around my head when I'm in bed...
