No injections. That's what I promised. This was to be a routine doctor's visit on a routine day just before last Christmas.

Our tree was up. School had finished. I was working from home on a piece for the BBC Radio 4 Six O'Clock News. Sam, my eight-year-old son, had been feeling tired. For a few nights running he had wet the bed, something he hadn't done for years. For the past few days he'd been eating oddly large amounts and was constantly thirsty.

My wife Sarah was at work so I had offered to take Sam for a check-up. I expected us to be home for lunch. What happened next is still a blur in my mind.

    • eating alot, drinking heavily. what an amazing disease.

the suspense on "what happened next is still a blur in my mind" is sooo intense, let me tell ya.

you need to state the disease so we can have some empathy, otherwise this is one of those "And then the monster came and... the end"
      yawn
