At midnight, more than 40 officers from the Ohio University Police Department (OUPD) and the Athens Police Department (APD) sat near Rollerbowl, 28 Palmer St. About 8,000 people - give or take 2,000 - attended this year's alcohol-soaked bash, according to Athens police.
I love my school.
I heard from other students that there was supposedly tear gas, kids got trampled by the horses, and a lot of people got maced. I unforunately missed all the excitment.

Yeah, I heard a lot of people were arrested who weren't doing anything, but I can kind of understand where they were coming from. I mean, with a crowd of around 8,000 people, and only around 50 or 60 police officers, what do you expect them to do?
As soon as things started being lit on fire and it was clear things were getting out of control, people who weren't doing anything and didn't want to get in trouble should have left.

I was there, and I'm actually in a few of The Post's pictures. Not only was I not drunk, I was kicked by a horse, nearly trampled twice, saw 3 people get trampled, my friends got clubbed for no reason other then they were standing there, and another friend got tear gassed. The police took this small problem and dealt with the situation horribly. This could have been dealt with better. Because yes, when they first put out the fire, it was understandable that the police use force. But everything after that was pure antagonization from the Police force. I saw a photographer taken down by 4 officers, for no reason at all. And another girl who was only about 5 feet tall pushed against a tree but a horse about to trample her--and what stopped the horse? A man who stepped in and asked the officer to leave her alone, because she wasn't doing anything. He was then maliciously attacked by 4 officers as well and arrested. I'm not saying the police weren't originally justified, but just telling you what I saw. I have the videos to prove these things.

I go to OU, and I could not be more embarrassed by the actions of my fellow students. I agree with numbz..if you see the fire starting, don't sit there and root it on. LEAVE! If i were a police officer who was getting bottles thrown at me, you better believe I'm going to do whatever it takes to get the situation under control especially being as outnumbered as they were. The students who are complaining about not doing anything but being mistreated really annoys me. What makes me really upset is that for us graduating seniors who acted responsibly, we now have to face even harder job searches as this incident surely won't look good when employers see that we went to OU. I just wish some would stop acting so stupid and immature during these fests.

Yeah, I understand your job search would suck, and the reason I didn't leave was because I was there looking out for my friends, who were intoxicated, and was in the process of convincing them to leave. Dont you dare tell me that I sat on a roof and supported the actions of the idiotic people who started the fires. But that doesn't mean I deserved to be treated the way I was either. I completely understand the need for the police and fire dept. to be there. They WERE needed, and I don't disagree with that, but even a few firefighters were appalled by what they saw Saturday night.
