Why Europe is Dying: Neo-Darwinism

Lord Sacks blamed Europe's falling birth rate on a culture of "consumerism and instant gratification".
He said the continent was "dying" and accused its citizens of not being prepared for parenthood's "sacrifices".

The interesting thing to note here, I believe, is the idea of our generally secular mindset and whether it does really lead to a desire for "consumerism and instant gratification".
Are we becoming too selfish to have families?

Sounds as if the good rabbi is defending the bible quote "be fruitful and multiply."
I would have to say we've reached the limits of that, since we are approaching the 7 billion mark and the planet can only support so many people.
I don't really think we are looking at "selfishness" but rather "the good of the whole."
As it may be beneficial to the world to not over populate, reduce our number of children so that the human race can continue to survive. - 2 years ago

i am. i cant afford the shit i want and feel im entitled to so fuck having another mouth to feed, pushing me financially farther away from my goals. besides the mormans, the catholics, and southern highscholl kids are having babies at record numbers that easily offset me not reproducing.
should i have a child and instill him with the same values i suffer for, so that he may suffer as a result of them aswell. god forbid my child was born gay, id have to live the remainder of my days watching my child suffer in a society that hates him for no viable reason.
faith is declining because its outdated and is the cause of more problems than it solves. you dont need the torah or the bible to tell you murder is wrong.
while reasonable people are trying to progress forward religious people are preoccupied with wether or not sodom and gamorah was a story about god being offended by homosexuals or glutans. thier will never be a unified concencus so that attempt of understanding what the appropriate course of action should be is forever stagnant.
six thousand years of unimaginable suffering didnt destroy faith in god, secular europeans arent going to kill it, proliferation of reasonable thought will regardless of what society embraces it. but thier will always be unreasonable people who will support unreasonable idealogies.
thier is still a flat earth society, people who believe the earth is flat, religion is safe - 2 years ago
