Public Opinion: Why be gay?

I totally believe in reincarnation but I am undecided as of yet as to the male switch to a female idea yet. I have pondered it a fair amount but I am still leaning towards it being an earthly or physical transaction. But the whole idea is still under investigation for me.

There are a few logic problems with that opinion.
For one thing, there are plenty of examples of homosexuality in the animal kingdom. If you believe in God, animals do not have free will, they are just going by the instincts that God gave them. Therefore, God intended for some animals to be homosexual, because they don't have the free will to decide either way. From this you can make the assumption that homosexuality does not go against his word, because he created it.

hey man, thanks for the response, but i think u are reading too much into the logical side of things, which unfortunately alot of people who arent christian turn to for answers, through what ive seen, obviously i dont know you so i cant say. in my opinion, Humans are not animals, we are a completely seperate and unrelated entity. So bringing that up does not have any relevance to me, though it is a good point, we shouldnt compare animals "insticts" to real human emotion...and if you dont belive in God, (now this question is not aimed towared you) but how can people say what he created and what he didnt, if you are not in touch God and the bible. Again, it is an opinion, so dont shoot it down. :)

I love Christians but I hate their ignorance, their superstition, their bigotry. I love Christians but I have no respect for them because they abandon their intellect in favor of non-sense.

Imagine someone who claims that individuals choose their sexuality. How can anyone be so ignorant? Ask yourself, did you choose your sexuality? Did you sit down and make a list of pros and cons to determine your sexuality?

Christianity and religion is the source of much of the world's pain, misery, and suffering. It is because of Christian bigotry that gays and lesbians continue to be discriminated against today.

How can anyone claim they love a gay person and then deny them the right to marry the person they love? Can there be anything more hateful than telling two human beings in love that their love is illegitimate?

Some Christians think they to talk a good game with the "love the sinner - hate the sin" crap, but let us be honest. Such talk is only a polite way of saying "I am a bigot, and I am unwilling to abandon my ignorance, my bigotry, my hate."

You're right. Going by the Bible, animals are different than humans.
I'm not religious, but I am familiar with the Bible and Christianity.
Consider this- God gave us sexual instincts and the ability to be sexually aroused. Sexual arousal is involuntary. Free will does not dictate sexual arousal. You cannot decide to get an erection, it just happens. Therefore, you can assume that it's God's will that some men are sexually aroused by other men.
Now, at this point, some Christians will agree with this point of view, but say that gays must use free will to fight their natural God-given homosexual instincts. Like as if it were a disease. But, it's so ridiculous if you think about it.

There are so many things that scripture forbids. So many more dangerous and damaging things. Greed and Gluttony are actual deadly sins, yet Christians do not go after obese or rich people the way they passionately persecute homosexuals. It makes no sense.

The Bible only has about 3 or 4 passages that forbid homosexuality. Compared to the ten commandments or the seven deadly sins that have entire books written about them in the Bible. Why all the hate towards something that the Bible barely mentions?

Just because you accept god and the bible as truth, doesn't mean you can automatically dismiss his argument. I mean you can't prove that God exists or that the bible is the word of god or that its actually true history... so to base your opinion on something so absolutely not credible is kind of disheartening. I mean don't you actually have your own thoughts and opinions on this based on what you've come to know and your experience with it? And I know you also can't disprove it, but therefore you can't use it as fact either. I don't know why you're so quick to accept whatever the bible says though...

You should really have a deep talk with one of your gay friends and ask whether it is a choice for them. I assert that it isn't a choice. After hearing their point of view, if you accept it, you might have to revise your belief that god wouldn't create a person who is wired against his word.

I love bacon. I didn't choose to love bacon. I just do. The same sort of thing is true for people who are gay. They just are. That's a trivial example, but I don't choose to be straight either. I just am. I am unable to choose to be gay because I don't have those kinds of feelings for other members of the same sex. It's not a choice.

I don't like the smell of rotting food. It's not a choice.

People do not choose their feelings. It would serve you well in life to come to terms with that, even when thinking introspectively.

1. I think we are separate from animals because God made HUMANS, not animals in his own image, so, to me, that means, if you follow the story of creation, that since we are not connected to animals by any means, we are seperate

It's a story though... and what you don't understand is that we respect religion, we don't care what you believe as long as it doesn't affect others. What we can't respect is that you deny people their happiness and that most of you don't question the bible at all, you just accept it as fact. You preach love, acceptance, unity, forgiveness... as long as it falls in with what the bible says.

1. There is no god. We are animals. To claim we are not connected to animals by any means is ignorant.
2. When you claim gays and lesbians choose to be gay or lesbian you are attacking them. You are calling them liars, because the vast majority of gays and lesbians claim that they do not choose their sexuality.
3. I do not respect your opinion. I am saying you are wrong. I find your attitudes towards homosexuality to be based in ignorance and religious bigotry.
4. Not all opinions are equal, and not all points of view are correct. I can not and will not respect superstition, ignorance and bigotry. That would be wrong.
5. I hope you manage to escape the religious ignorance and superstition that has ensnared you. I hope you are one day able to accept your gay "friends" without hating their lifestyle. I hope you manage to escape the bigotry and hatred of Christianity.

you are absolutely right, i dont question the bible because i KNOW its fact, and no one can tell me different. the bible is the most historically correct religious document out of all of the religious documents, not because i think so, but because if u ask any historian, secular or not, they will confirm that the bible, even if they dont believe in what it says, it is 100% geographically and historically true. im not saying i dont respect all that ur saying, because in fact i do, and i have no one backing me up here, so im not just jumping on a bandwagon...im just saying what i believe, and im asking you to respect it just like i respect yours

I know that it does not fit with your religious beliefs, but frankly, there is a lot about reality that does not fit with most people's religious beliefs.

I could prove to you that sexual orientation is not a choice, but I realize that as a religious person that will not sink in. We have to deal with the religious beliefs first, not with reality.

How about this to reconcile the two:

Why do you think the Bible says homosexuality is against God's word?
Have you ever thought that just maybe people might have gotten that wrong?

People have used the BIble to justify treating blacks as property, to justify slaughtering Native Americans, to justify going to war against Islam.

I'm sure you would agree that flawed human beings read things INTO the BIble that are not really there.

I am highly familiar with the references to homosexuality in the Bible, and absolutely none of them condemn monogamous relationships between consenting adults of the same sex.

Some of them are about men wanting to commit rape; others are about men with male temple prostitutes; others are about men with little boys; others are about humans abandoning themselves to orgies with no inhibitions; ALL things that are just as condemned when between people of the opposite sex, NONE are actually about homosexuality.

There are even stories of same sex relationships, that while not specifically given a stamp of approval, were not condemned either.

I can provide all of the scripture to back this up.

Humans are more calculating, vindictive and capable of far more barbaric things than animals, oh, and they can speak. So yah, they are quite different. In certain situations, humans become some of the most ruthless animals on the planet.

I'm a Christian, and my best friend is gay, and I KNOW that it is not a choice. It's also not a big deal. If you dont know yourself and ur experimenting then yeah thats a choice. If ur a christian you really should be the last person to judge a homosexual or anyone else, seeing as how the Bible says those that judge harshly will be judged harshly by God, since He is the ultimate judge. Just let people be who they say they are, because you arent them, and you cant tell them how they feel. Dont hate, dont discriminate, because Jesus loves EVERYBODY

We have the capacity to be equivalent to that of an animal. Moments through out history have shown that many digress into a barbaric and animalistic state when the current conditions become anarchistic. When hurricane Katrina took place, it only took three days for that environment to erupt. Donner's Party in 1846 and the Andean plane crash involving a Rugby team in 1972 resorted to cannibalism to survive.

There are many other cases where in humanity has shown their ability to devolve into animalistic behaviors whether it is to survive or just out of sheer desire. So are we animals? I am inclined to say yes on many levels; however, most have managed to evolve to a higher level of ability and civilizatory nature but we also have the ability to revert rather quickly.

Now thats a Christian I can agree with.

What if there are other life forms that exist on other planets outside of our galaxy? What if they don't look humanoid? What if they are far more intelligent and evolved than what we are.

If they have the capacity to travel in space at hyper-speeds from one galaxy to another? Then this would tend to indicate they are further evolved. The possibilities of other life forms is astronomically high as there is a vast amount of unexplored space. If God is an efficient steward, then it would seem that he wouldn't want to waste all of that vast creation.

The most interesting day ever witnessed would be the day an alien space ship landed on earth and all of the Christians scramble to make sense of it. Their bibles would soon take on a different meaning.

So, will that day ever happen? Based on logic and mathematical probabilities the answer is most likely yes! All of humanity would be forced to re-evaluate their perspectives on almost everything they know or think they know especially religion.

So the knowledge of God, which we "attained" from eating the forbidden fruit, is what makes us different from animals? Then what was different about man that made him choose to eat the forbidden fruit as opposed to any other animal?

Sorry, I'm not disagreeing with you, I'm just wondering about the argument earlier about how man is different from animals. Because of this man can think on his actions and make a choice to be homosexual or not, but animals who act purely on instinct do not. As to that I was wondering, what makes us so different from animals.

What if an animal ate of that same fruit? They to would have been cast out of the Garden of Eden. However, from the looks of things around us, it appears that many animals partook of the fruit as well. Maybe the real question that should be asked is if God created us in his image, then why would we have the ability to procreate if it were not meant to be used? It would seem that the forbidden fruit was a meal intended for consumption to provide the means to an end. Perhaps the whole concept is nothing more than a story concocted to explain how man came to be rather than allowing one to believe that we evolved from one thing to the next and eventually to a monkey or some other form of primate.

Based on all of my observations thus far, I am inclined to believe that neither humans or animals can make a choice as to their sexual orientation. They can make a decision to act this way or that if they are so disposed to do so. In prisons, there are many people that find themselves in a situation where if they desire to have a sexual relationship their options are limited. At that point they can decide to indulge themselves in their options or remain without. If they indulge then obviously they are engaged in homosexual activities but this still doesn't make them gay. It just means they are sufficiently horny to overcome their reservations about such things.

For example: I have a brother that has a male, Boston Terrier. This dog seems to find great delight in trying to mate with their male cat. The cat is not at all pleased or on board with the idea but the dog finds his resistance to be meaningless. If any cat or dog, male or female shows up, he sees them as fair game. This dog is not concerned about the gender but more about the activity. He is quite certain that it is all good. I have seen some people with this same mentality as well.

Ksirys is correct, it's not like changing your hair color or getting a piercing, a person doesn't wake up one day and decide they're attracted to the same sex, it's not a choice. A person is born gay and is attracted to the same sex the same way that a heterosexual person is attracted to the opposite sex.
