I've started to come across more of these users like this than I'd like to admit. They register for the site, post a story, vote up their story, comment on that story, then sometimes vote up the comment they made on that story, AND to top it all off they have a link to their service or product which resolves the issue listed in the article(or in some instances is just reiterative of the link in the post).
Now all of this doesn't necessarily make an outcry for SPAM true, but when that's all the user does I think the question becomes fully legitimate of whether their actions can be stated as SPAM.
So in an effort to confront this problem, I suggest when any of us feels that someone is spam, we flag it and then post a story with the link to their profile. By doing this we can find out what is happening behind the scenes, make guesses of our own, and have a better idea for how much these events are occurring.
It would also be nice if Current put a day or two time delay on brand new users for badge earning. This give people a heads up to investigate earlier, for users that seem suspicious.
The same could principles could be applied to trolls and their ilk as well, if one were so inclined.
