Domestic violence is frequent and often unreported.....

Family violence and abuse is a serious and deeply entrenched problem in Australia. It has significant impacts upon the lives of men, women and children. It knows no boundaries of gender, geography, socio-economic status, age, ability, sexual preference, culture, race or religion. Domestic violence (also known as intimate partner violence or IPV), and most elder abuse, child abuse and sexual abuse are all different forms of family violence. Thankfully reducing family violence against women and children has been firmly on the agendas of government for many years. Now is the time to move to the next, more sophisticated stage of tackling the problem: recognising men as victims as well.

    • Never ignore abuse by a wife. I ignored for 2 years. From no sex to throwing everything at me, but I never paid attention to it because of the campaign on TV about the monthly cycle craziness. She was inciting violence to divorce me. However, since it did not work she was couched by the Latino women in action how to lie to the police to get me arrested. She now lives happily in my house with her previews boyfriend that she has before knowing me. I cannot describe how I feel but I am happily married to the idea that I would never marry again. I do not recommend marry to any men. You can lose everything you worked for your whole life and be treated like a criminal and arrested falsely for thing that never happens. Enjoy it, and when she ask for marry disappear and find another one.

      @brotherlelo,

      Sorry to hear your story but I am glad you posted it. Men are often victims of domestic but do not report it. If a man does seek help he finds that there is no help for abused men available and instead he is ridiculed, or even arrested.
      This must change!

    • Domestic violence is a problem everywhere and is not limited to just one country. In some cultures, men have dominion over women and can pretty much beat them to death without fear of being put in prison. However, in countries where it's actually a crime to physically abuse anyone, including women abusing their significant others, I think a lot of them are afraid to report it for fear of losing their children to Child Protective Services. Nowadays when you go into a DV shelter and you have children with you, especially younger and more marketable children," it's automatically reported to CPS. Getting bet up vs. losing your children forever, most parents will choose to get beat up. I know I would. Thank God I'm not in that situation but if I was, I wouldn't report it either. I'd just have to hope and pray that the next time he wouldn't kill me or hurt me so bad that I had no choice but to go to an emergency room. Even then, I'd deny having children or even give them a fraudulent name and definitely a fake address.

      Nobody should have to choose between their physical and emotional health and their children yet that's the decision thousands upon thousands of people have to make each day in the United States and other countries. Most people who are being abused do not even have family and friends they can run to because they're scared of the abuser as well. More and more people are going to die all because they're too scared to seek help. That is just not right or fair.

      I was in front of the judge when I realized that if I proved my child's mother unfit I would lose the child myself. I had to shut my mouth and let the judge ignore the facts. I still don't know how to present your case if you are a male and the victim of violence.
