If I walk into a bad neighborhood at night carrying a tourist map with with money hanging out of my pocket, is it my fault if I get mugged?

No, but if you go to bad neighborhood with a lot of money in your hands waiving around and telling everyone check this out, if you would like all this money it's yours then do not be surprised when it's taken.

Thank you for this important post.
I completely agree with the right side of the article "Face it: You get wasted, you get stupid. by Susan Avery"
Very good point, "Why would this statement be considered insulting to women? If anything, it's a wake-up call to reality. " and "If a college-age woman chooses to get smashed at a party, then she's also choosing to give up good decision-making. You can't separate the two. You drink, you don't think clearly."
It is absurd that woman chooses to drink to the point she can not think clearly but a man needs to be sober to think clearly and comprehend what a drunk woman really wants.

Yeah, I agree... although I am definitely not for the rape of girls (just so everyone here on current knows, because I know how good we all are about taking small things personal), I just think that it is similar to saying a drunk driver didn't deserve to get in a car accident even though she was driving under the influence.

That would only compare if the car could drive itself and wasn't a machine . People can make choices , if a guy can't stop there isn't a brake to step on . So it's the guy that's too fucked up to stop that fits your comparison of saying it's not his fault he was drunk , rape is a crime even if you barely remember what you did . If i'm drunk and I rob you it's not going to matter .

I disagree that a woman can drink herself to the point of not knowing where she is or why she is there and regardless of her actions and rely on someone else for sanity. Check this video and tell me do these women send a message they are not interested in sex?

yes and it's illegal to have sex with someone who can't consent , being raped is passive and requires no movement , rape means the guy is able to forcibly engage in anything , against your will . So I'm all for girls being responsible but it makes men sound like uncontrollable predators that can't choose .

So in your opinion it's ok for a young woman to get drunk to the point she can put her legs around anyone she see as seen in the video but a young man must stay sober so he can say NO to her to avoid accusation of rape?

Nowhere did I say that . I'm saying that who ever committed the rape is still responsible for their actions .

There are several distinct categories,
a) "rape" she said and acted clearly NO and he physically held her to take advantage of her,
b) she is too drunk and does not remember what happened
c) she was too drunk and does not remember and wants to blame some one because she does not remember. - 1 year ago

MotherForTruth:
Those are not different categories , they are convicted by pleading to a lessor crime . The drunk girl who forgot doing anything reporting a rape gets investigated and rarely gets taken to court . The other categories you had were just details of the same charge as the other examples you listed , rape isn't that broad a law , it's pretty clear and the details of the crime may get plead down to a lessor crime .

I just watched all 5:52 of this really silly clip . I may have been at one of those parties it looks like Friday night everywhere but I didn't think of raping anyone just because they were clearly intoxicated , those guys are still responsible for their actions . You seem to avoid saying that and hold on to blaming girls without any information to back your opinion.

I disagree with you. Here is how this works,
a) "rape" she said and acted clearly NO and he physically held her to take advantage of her, -------> If she pressed charges he will go to prisonb) she is too drunk and does not remember what happened ------> if she pressed charges he will go to prison even if there are no evidence that she did not consent
c) she was too drunk and does not remember and wants to blame some one because she does not remember--------> if she pressed charges he will go to prison even if there are no evidence that she did not consent
Did you know that when a woman reports she was raped (any one of the 3 categories above) her testimony is the only evidence needed to send a man to prison for up to 30 years and register on a sex offender database for life? This is the sad truth.

YEs I know the law and every example you gave was wrong , it's more complicated and less manipulative than your saying . The crime of rape can be plead done to an E felony or even a misdemeanor if thee prosecution doesn't like the odds of winning the case . In all your examples Kobe would be in prison in Colorado ( very strict rape laws) . You make general statements that aren't based in real numbers and data so it's hard to figure out what your saying about rape or just your opinion on the topic.

Kobe can afford a top notch defense team. Let's take example of someone who does not have deep pockets and you will see a very different outcome regardless of the truth.

so it's more personal for you and you think men are unfairly convicted for rape or sexual assault ? Assuming that ever bad lawyer can plead out a case with facts , without facts both parties would not want to go to court .

My point that category b) in my comment above may not be rape at all, and in fact he may be innocent, and category c) there is no rape. Period. You seem to label all sex as rape.
