Will AAA come if your car overheats and dies? LOL, anyhow, sounds like a great marvel of engineering . . . and the views must be incredible!

There must be some toll to cross it. ;-). I'm torn between marvelling at it and denouncing its environmental impact. Seems to me with so many Chinese people living in poverty and pollution they could have put the money to better use.

Such projects help us to question what is achievable. They inspire with thier scope and breadth. Public works, is just that, work for the public, proof of what we are capable of even in the worst of times and in the best of times a beacon that showcases our progress. I can't wait till America tackles such impossible projects again, like a trans siberian tunnel or NASA's space elevator project.

Another sign of Chinese innovation and the nation's ability to attain the unthinkable. But let's not forget, the U.S. still has Lake Pontchartrain!

Ok, ok, so it's a Causeway, and not a bridge. But who's counting?
Oh, right. We are.

I only wish they had made it wider. It seems logical to give the bridge more lanes than necessary, in order to compensate for future growth or an increase in public transportation across the bridge.

Lee1, it's a good idea to build a bridge to Sicily but I wouldn't want the Italian government to build my bridge.
The Chinese have built the unthinkable, this is an amazing architectural feat.

They plan on building a bridge across the Bering Strait as well, now that one would be scary. I watched a documentary on all the testing they are in the process of in the Discovery Channel, it's very interesting. They plan on having a train in a tunnel below and a road on top of the bridge, personally I think they should just do trains considering thats a long way for vehicles to be polluting the ozone layer. I believe somewhere in that region of world is where the hole in the ozone is developing anyways but I'm not sure.

i hope that the bridges in china are more structurally sound than the ones in the U.S. - - overall, one-quarter of all bridges in the U.S. are considered structurally deficient, and nearly 80,000 bridges across the country need some sort of reconstruction or rebuilding.

Two things came to mind when I read this. For such a long bridge, what was/is the environmental impact upon the Bay? And if persons can commute to far out communities, will they drive themselves or will they take public transportation (i.e commuter bus)? It doesn't seem like bridge supports a rail line.

That looks really cool, but I wouldn't want to be trapped on that thing in the midst of a natural disaster.
