    • Let me get this straight - Georgia invades South Ossetia, Russia retaliates and invades Georgia in response, and now the US is blaming Russia?

Yep. What a mess, huh? I was watching an interview with Russia's Defense Minister last night on Channel 4 news and he was saying how the western media is feeding us lies and we really have no idea what's going on. I don't know who to believe, really.

    • If you are really aiming to THINK - try to do it by yourself!
      1) Figure it out - Georgia ATTACKED South Osetia with HEAVY ARTILLERY and TANKS 07/08/2008 and (in one night) KILLED about 2000 citizens, DESTROYED Tshinvaly (the capital of S.Osetia) and several smaller towns.
      2) More than 2/3 of osetians are RUSSIANS! And S Osetia is NOT a part of Georgia from 1991 yr. (and its never been a part of Georgia before 1920 – it had become a part of georgia after SU appeared)!!! NOBODY in Russia wants to gain Georgia "back to the USSR" (I meant in borders of Russia). Georgians wanted to be separated and NOBODY tried to keep them in 1991!
      3) EVERY georgian neighbor is ready to declare WAR to Georgian criminal state if it`ll try to repeat S.Osetian scenario. Enough to eat every false your newspaper prints! Just ASK any caucasian about this problem if you are REALLY trying to understand whats happening there! Osetia and Abkhasia don`t want to come back to Georgian borders (ind they will NEVER back).
      4) About "Georgian" aggression... DO YOU know that "georian" troops consist of international mercenaries? (of course not I guess...) So ASK GEORGIANS about it - theirs Saakashvilly tried to mobilize, arm and throw to WAR last night`s CIVILIANS! (they even DIDN`t KNOW about theirs destination and aim) So when they looked at this foul "turn" against theirs neighbors - they DESERt by themselves! Most of georgians doesn???t want this war! Because it concerns all caucasian brothers nations!
      5) All this act of Saakashvily is only a cause to fire up situation in Caucasus! This way USA can realize its politics of "struggle against russian treat"... A bullshit that helps to spend your money! :)) And YOU ARE EATING THIS!!!

      ----
If you are really trying to THINK - look at USA economics!
      a) at USDollar EMISSION value (all the data from 2005 classified as secret) - they just filled up all the world with $USDollars = uncovered paper money!
      b) at USA trade balance from 1985 (EXPORT-IMPORT)
      c) at USA DEBT (including not only external government debt but also "future obligations" (social for example) - and you will see - EXPANCES of US government always needs a "COVER" (overconsumption is take a place).

So EVERY action, every politics is aiming to GAIN A MONEY! Yours or smb. else's!

If you are still not interesting in TRUTH - so keep your eyes "WIDE SHUT"... and I pity you...

    • Update from Al Jazeera:
Georgia's president claims Russian forces are controlling the key town of Gori, 60km from Tbilisi, essentially "cutting Georgia in half" by cutting connections between western and eastern Georgia.

But Russia is denying that it has taken Gori. Thus far they will only confirm that they have forces in Abkhazia, another breakaway region. There are Russian-backed separatist there that have allegedly launched artillery strikes in attempt to push Georgia out of that region.

    • Russia decided to invade a sovereign democratic Georgia. Russia is bombing georgian cities, airports, railway, stadiums, civilian blocks, and everything that can be leveld to the ground. While international community stands by, thousands of civilians are wounded and dieing from blasts comming from Russian tanks and air force. Russia has INVADED a democratic sovereign country!

Immediate action is required to Stop Russia. United States, European Union, United Nations and others must do everythin to stop this disaster as soon as possible. There is no time to stand by. Please sign the petition and inform everyone of the current events that are taking place.

Please be informed and alert: Russian government controlled media is spreading missinformation about the events that are taking place in Georgia, claiming that Russia is supporting peace, and Georgians are to blame. Do not be fooled by the tricks and propaganda of the russian television!

      More detail on what happened:
You might have been hearing different rumors about what happened, most of which are lies and propaganda by Russian media. Here's what really happened: Georgia has a province 'South Osetia' which tried to separate from Georgia after Soviet Union fell early 1990ies (Soviet Union had ocuppied Georgia and it's provinces for over 70 years) the attempt of separation of this province was masterminded in Russian government and backed for all these years. The separatist movement resulted a conflict between Georgia and it's region 'South Ossetia', but in reality it was a conflict between Russia and Georgia. Russia brought it's troops in the region for peacekeeping and supplied separatists with arms of unimaginable ammount, which really was for controll in the region. Since then Georgia tried multiple times to resolve the conflict peacefully offering separatist defacto government autonomy and everything they could have ever dreamt of, but resolved conflict never was in Russian plan as the idea was to annex and take away this land from Georgia. Russia's current goal is to destabilize Georgia to prevent it from entering NATO as they have said: 'We will do anythign to prevent Georgia and Ukraine from entering NATO'. Recently, South Osetian side carried out a Russian plan to provoke Georgia and pull it into conflict by bombing Georgian civilian villages for 11 days. Georgia did not respond, asked separatists to stop bombing, but they did not. Georgian government made a decision to carry out an operation to crack down on separatists militants who had been terorrizing region for a while now. Georgian forces forced the separatist militants out of their positons and they fled North to the Russian border. Russia responded by invading Sovereign country and bombing not only South Ossetian region, but entire Georgia.

I love how you people always act like there is no sepratist movement and its all a manipulation by a more powerfull country. The People of South Ossetia do not want to be a part of Georgia or the Russians would not be there. Stop trying to use the bias that people have againbst Russia to discredit the South Ossetian Independace Movment.

    • Bush likes to talk tough so he looks like a strong President that doesn't accept injustice.

      The real story?

He's scared shitless because he can't do -anything-. He's also feeling the heat because this is partially instigated by prior U.S. policy.

There is absolutely no way we can get involved here and it's seriously destabilizing to the world. And Bush knows that he is partially to blame for this unfolding nightmare because our foreign policy has been pushing for Georgia to do this for a long time.

If we're lucky, Russia's wrath will be short-lived and end in terrible but not unacceptable death and carnage.

I don't even want to think about what will happen if we're not so lucky.

    • My name is Alexey, I am living in Vladivostok which is far away from southern part of Russia and close to Japan. I am watching lots of news – European, Russian, American and Asian, including CNN. I cannot keep silence any longer and I want to say the following. I am in perplexity how CNN reviews the situation about South Osetia. CNN is saying nothing about Georgian massive perfidious night attack on the capital of South Osetia without any warning after few hours when Saakashvilly said “We are not going to use any aggression.” CNN is saying nothing about killing peace forces during that night attack. I didn’t hear anything about killing thousands of civilians during that attack by using reactive volley machines that are burning the area and killing all around and not for dotted fire. CNN is saying nothing about resolution of the year 1992 (subscribed by Georgia) about peace forces that actually stopped the war between Georgia and South Osetia at that time and are keeping peace during 16 years and patiently waiting when Georgia and South Osetia will find any solution. CNN is saying nothing about Georgian forces killing civilians in homes, basements, streets – nothing about that in the next day after destroying 10 villages and the capital Georgian forces were not allowed take off injured people and shot the caravan with such a people. CNN is saying nothing about Georgian action when they flooded a part of the city and killed many of citizens in basements that didn’t escaped. CNN is saying nothing about Russian help of saving people with camps, food and medicines and nothing about why other countries are not helping. I do not know why; probably “west” consider some human beings as “people” and some as “gun meat” for politicians.
CNN says that Russian forces came to capture Georgia, but says nothing about that they came to save civilians and push Georgian troops off the peace line where they were few days ago – that is all – nothing more. Russia respects Georgian territorial integrity, and during 16 years didn’t confess an independence of South Osetia and waiting for any peaceful agreement between Georgia and Osetia!
CNN shows medicine camps with injured people without any (ANY!!!) comments from those people, just we can hear some music in background and CNN’s comments about how those people were shot during Russian attacks – such an outrageous lie! LET THOSE PEOPLE SAY IN CAMERA THE TRUTH!
CNN shows how some reactive volley machines during night time shooting somewhere and in the background with tragedy music we can hear some CNN’s comments about Russian aggression, but nobody knows that the video is about Georgian GRAD’s that destroying villages during the first night attacks – such an outrageous lie! Just after that we can see a picture of Russian tanks – probably it works good for a “western” auditory for a brain washing – RUSSIA-TANKS – TANKS-RUSSIA – like zombing people as if such a military equipment inseparably bound with anything Russian because the pattern of a Cold War is still in minds of many “western people”, but it is no longer in minds of Russians – which is very strange to me…
Probably for some politicians it is OK to say that black is white and white is black and big Russia is an aggressor that came to terminate a small Georgia.
CNN says that Russia uses too many forces to stop Georgian “peacemakers”. I just wander who is going to calculate the amount of combatants that are needed to stop those who are killing kids at this time. Probably US will send some three super heroes from the Hollywood movie which might substitute “too many forces” that will stop the entire army of Georgia. Instead of helping the peace forces to save civilians and to push Georgian troops off the peace line the US helped Saakashvilly to bring more from Iraq – no comments, newer mind!
      Sincerely, Alexey

    • Watching Georgie Boy speak on the television is always embarassing, but now he has the temerity to lecture anyone on violating a country's sovereignty? Is this man truly as stupid and clueless as he appears? While this invasion of Georgia is a serious issue that needs to be addressed by the global community, Bush is hardly the appropriate mouthpiece.

    • Bush is a funny sad puffin in the eyes of the world nations. He is regarded with disdain.

Bush it seems gave the high sign to the leader of Georgia that he could make an incursion into South Ossetia, which is an autonomous region where 92% of the citizens have Russian passports.

Putin countered and moved two rocket launchers into South Ossetia capable of delivering tactical nukes. These rockets have small conventional warheads and would be meaningless compared to the Russian air power in South Ossetia. Think about it!

Putin has already let it be known that Russia will respond to the use of US smart weapons on Russian troops with tactical nukes.

Bush created this mess and now is faced with a chicken match with Putin. This little conflict could turn nasty and engulf the entire region. And we have a stupid madman as president and a megalomaniac as his puppeteer.

First Bush's two faced father promised to stand with the rebels in south Iraq and tens of thousands were slaughtered while Bush senior engineered the S&L rip-off. Now Bush the lesser has done the same thing again. Bush has no moves against Putin. Putin has made a fool of Bush. Sadly thousands are slaughtered as a result of Bush's ego and his stupidity.

    • Yeah, its likely duel governments will form and neither will acknowledge the other until the U.N. comes in and mediates long drawn out peace talks. During which random violence and unjust acts will probably occur. The interesting thing will be the fate of the two break away regions, Abkhazia and South Ossetia.

    • How about this scenerio; This attack was on done to keep Russia occupied while the conflict spins out of control, Israel attacks Iran with backing of United States, I believe this is very possible since Israel and the U.S. are just itching to take out Iran's nuclear ambitions. The wild card here is that Russia and China
have stated an attack on Iran would not be tolerated.

The Current Staff have been re-posting other peoples stories and burying the original.

Not to mention, putting their own stories on TV when they have clearly been nothing but voted down...

Ayahuasca, I have noticed that happening a lot lately. I guess our taking of news from around the net doesn't really count. We look at the sites to find them, then they just re-post our stuff

    • I think Bush handled the situation in the right way for once. He put his foot down where it was needed. The last thing we need is another area in conflict right now. Russia's involvement in Georgia and specifically Abkhazia has no real justification. At least Bush was smart enough to make up a reason before invading.

I agree, this site is supposed to be in the hands of the people, but it seems to be serving as a liberal propaganda machine. I am liberal but I still think there should be some sort of equality in the way news is reported. I do realize the majority of the people on this site have liberal views and therefore the site would have more liberal stories, but I would still like to see some conservative reporting and then discussed by the rest of the viewers. Also, has anyone noticed the conservatives on this site are borderline retarded?

Why "Afghanistan no"? The FBI has admitted that it has no evidence to link Bin Laden to 9/11. Furthermore, the war on Afghanistan was planned and the military personnel already in place months before 9/11 - it was planned for mid-October 2001. Why? Because the Taliban refused to allow a Unocal pipeline to pass through Afghanistan to bring oil from the Caspian Sea Basin to Pakistan and India. Several countries were informed of that planned war in June of 2001. You were lied to about Afghanistan just as much as you were lied to about Iraq. Since then, the USA has bombed Afghanistan with thousands of tons of depleted uranium.
