!!!--- BREAKING NEWS ---!!!

Update:

A US Airways jet plunged into the Hudson River on Thursday sparking a rapid race against time to rescue the passengers from the frigid water.

Ferries and fireboats immediately raced to the scene as the plane bobbed in the water on the coldest day of the year.

Flight 1549 from LaGuardia was bound for Charlotte, N.C. and was scheduled to take off at 3 p.m. It was delayed 26 minutes before it finally took off.

Minutes later, the Airbus A320 with 169 passengers and five crew members was down in the drink and a rescue operation was underway.

MSNBC reported that the pilot said he had slammed into a flock of geese and had to hit the water near the Intrepid museum.

Shivering passengers dressed in yellow life vests could be seen sitting on the fuselage and calling out for help.

    • As one US Airways flight 1549 survivor put it, "God was certainly looking out for all of us." So I guess what this fortunate fellow means is, God, the old man with the beard who lives up in the clouds, decided that all the people on US Airways flight 1549 were so special, that he decided to frighten the crap out of all of them by faking a fatal plane crash, systematically making them think that they were going to die, then at the very last minute, God said, "HA-HA! Just kidding! I'm not going to kill you! I just wanted to scare the shit out of you, and then save your asses, since you're all so special, and I really want you to know that I care for you and love you, so I'm going to save you now, so that you believe in me. The passengers on Flight 800, and other catastrophic fatal crashes were generally not good people, and so I disposed of them... After all, I'm God, damn it, and I exterminate bad people. The Sudanese victims of genocide are generally bad people, which is why I don't let them live. 9-11 rescue workers, trapped and crushed on 9-11... Obviously bad people... Jewish victims of the Holocaust? Well certainly I had to kill them since they didn't believe in the divinity of my son Jesus. I mean, no brainer there."

There you have it folks. If you survived a near fatal plane crash, it wasn't because a highly trained and experienced professional crew exemplified ingenuity, composure, and skill to save your ass, it's because God in fact loves you more than others.

    • The pilot's action's are a testimony to the character inherent with military training and native Texans. Says it all, God bless him.

    • I'm extremely glad everyone survived with somewhat minor injuries, but the media needs to realize that after you've been covering the exact same thing for over 2 hours, it is no longer BREAKING NEWS. However, Sullenberger is a completely awesome name, no matter how much he got kicked around in grade school for it.

    • I have to agree with the posts about thanking the pilot and crew. This is not an act of god, nor does god deserve any thanks. This is the result of well trained crews. Thanks to the training programs, and thanks to the pilot who followed procedure. Albeit, the guy is not a hero, but he's a damn good and lucky pilot. If the wings dipped any which way those people would have been dead.

Absolutely awesome nonetheless. Good to hear that everyone survived.

    • I was just watching a news report talking about how they test plane engines to prepare them for "bird strikes." Apparently they fire birds into the engines! I'd be mortified if I didnt hate birds so much.

    • STOP CALLING THIS A MIRACLE!
The training of the pilot and the knowledge of the engineers are the gods in this scenario.
God has NOTHING to do with this because if he did the f**king plane wouldn't have crashed! Unless god has no dominion over birds.....

Totally! The pilot made the right decision to land the plane on water rather than try and push it for a runway..he must also be an incredibly skilled pilot to pull off that landing.

Also the crew sounds like they remained calm and handled the situation like pros (well I guess they are hehe).

And lets not forget the passengers, a life and death situation can get ugly if people start to overreact and freak out or start pushing and shoving.

      Sir,

I concur with your statement about pilot training, not from United but the military.

I leave everyone's interpretation of God's action's to themselves, as we are the driver's of our own free will.

Thanks for making a statement with significat IQ< most of make pointless comments from no knowledge or sense of reference.

Stop calling this a miracle! The pilot and his training/learning saved the day. You can also thank the engineers who built the thing and thought about this scenario when they were working on it. God is not involved at ANY level because if he was the F**KING PLANE WOULDN'T HAVE CRASHED!!!! Or does God have no dominion over birds?

    • Just 4 days ago the media tempted fate by boasting no airline fatalities in 2 years. Sounds like that may still hold true.

    • Holy shit! I was just on a plane out of LGA going to NC about a month ago; when the plane starts to take off you calm yourself and say Hey, everything is going to be fine...this is so scary! It's FREEZING in NY but I'm glad that everyone survived and the ferried were able to help so many people.

    • as a scientologist, i find it impossible to believe that our alien overlords would give us a plane that could be taken out by simple geese.

    • Everyone is alive, all kids and women got out first 148 Passengers out and the pilot did a great Job after a dual engine impact. It is not related to Terrorism and only few ladies with some leg injuries.

    • There is not much info right now, but the major concern is the passengers in the water with the freezing temperatures.
