Oh my gosh?? Wikipedia is growing up? A method of putting an end to edit wars? Say it's not so?
Instead of being the encyclopedia any child can edit, its now gonna be just for grown-ups?! Dang.

All Works should be cited and verified or something in this manner before being allowed to be submitted.

As long as TRUTH and fact is the foundation on which their moderation is founded, it's fair to reduce misinformation right?
It's not an all or nothing world, we need to nurture best practices though.

The fact that Wikipedia has a creator means it once did not exist ... something my peanut brain cannot comprehend

Remember when Steven Colbert changed the population of elephants, I guess there will be no more of that.

Some of my instructors will not allow information from Wikipedia to be used as an information source. They state lack of reliable information.
However, I have found Wikipedia to be very informative, and if I question the author's writings, I can always go look it up elsewhere.
I can understand wanting to make sure the info is correct. But who makes the decision, and on what basis? - 3 years ago

No instructor worth their salt would allow Wikipedia to be used as a citation. Just like encyclopedia citations of any type are not appropriate for most peer-reviewed material. Only original source material.
Wikipedia is a starting point, but NEVER a source!

retran,
I don't disagree with my instructors. When I do use Wikipedia for info, I always check the info through other sources.
But then again, it depends on what I am looking for. If I only want a rough overview, it usually answers my questions.
But if I want in depth info, it is a good starting point. - 3 years ago

i'm afraid that their moderation will go too far and they will quash things they just don't like. i know that wikimedia is leftist, and since I'm not, it makes me nervous

This isn't the first of this censorship... it never was really regulated by the "people," though it was nice to pretend such occurred. Here comes the end to accuracy. ha.

Do you consider any published work with editors to be censored? If that is how easy it is to fit your definition of censorship, then you have a strange and idiosyncratic understanding of censorship indeed.
Better yet: wait to see how it functions in practice.

Oh yeah, because reality has a well known liberal bias.
