it's definitely possible to create savings by merging, especially when the economics of scale are factored in. but, i really doubt u or i will see any savings...which is lame.
northwest has already taken away most every amenity possible in an effort to save cashola. i'd be surprised to see lower fares based on this. i'm going to become all about hitchhiking.

Good point uroborus8, so you see them as essentially glamming up the fact that they are slowly gaining a monopoly on US air travel?
Anyone else share the same sentiments?

The combined fleet and service will continue to suck but the new entity will be able to save on marketing costs, this savings will, of course, not be passed on to you the consumer. Thanks FTC.

I don't see how airfare is going to be cheaper after this merger. The fewer major airlines we have, the less competition there will be, therefore ticket prices will be higher.

Merging, merging, merging. I'm in agreement with noncozy attitudes for FAA and airlines. A recent trip on a 747-400 Boeing with one failed attempt to land because front landing gear doesn't deploy teaches me to be more concerned.

If this makes air fare cheaper I am all for it.

Just keep the damn planes safe. Do your revisions when they need to be done. FAA, stop getting cozy with the airlines and do your job!
