Imagine going to school underground. Or perhaps in a shack floating on the sea. Check out these five 'alternative' school settings. They're alternative to those of us who spent time in a boring old building, but for some kids it's reality. Some of these were built for economic purposes, and others as innovative designs. I think I'd take classes in the floating school so I could have a swim in the afternoon. What's your favorite?

    • I've seen that floating school when I went travelling before uni. It's in Halong Bay, Vietnam, near to the Gulf Of Tonkin. The fishing community live in floating houses tethered to empty oil drums. It's a very picturesque, unique place. One of the coolest places I've seen.

    • I love the last Leggo block type shipping container schools. What a great way to recycle those things - splash of paint, some electrical and plumbing, furnish, chalkboard and books and violla! You've got a new school!

    • ... ha.. my school should be here.. its just as eccentric....when it rains outdoors, theres buckets indoors. We don't have grass on our "soccer field", we have mushrooms in the music room. Our yearly renovation is a new carpet. Yet... the Ontario School Board still allows it. Its a private school in Ontario ... students are rich, school ... not so much.
