Elevator 55 - video and sound installation in an elevator

55 Washington Street, 2nd floor, freight elevator
Friday 6 - 9 pm
Saturday & Sunday 3 - 6 pm

Ursula Scherrer (video) and Kato Hideki (sound) are playing with the awareness of the elevator as a space beyond its functionality.
The passengers are surrounded with a poetic collage of images shot in the elevator itself, manipulated and taken out of context, and then projected back into the space.
Tone generators are used to create an ever-ascending sound that resonates in the space, enhancing the experience of the crawling images.

    • Really cool idea; it's funny how even the best-designed buildings often neglect the elevators as a purely functional space. A great idle time to invade with art as well...
