VIDEO: Palestinian repeatedly fired Mortars at Israel from UN School

datamined
Palestinian militants fired on Israeli soldiers from the courtyard of a U.N. school where dozens of people died in fiery explosions.

The IDF issued a statement saying the school grounds were used by terrorists to fire mortar shells at the troops.

Among the dead were members of a Hamas launching cell, including operatives Immad Abu Askar and Hassan Abu Askar.

The infantrymen returned mortar shell fire into the school grounds, the army said. Defense officials told the Associated Press that booby-trapped bombs in the school triggered the secondary explosions which killed scores of Palestinians on the site.

The IDF released a video taken by a UAV in the end of 2007 showing terrorists firing mortar shells from right outside the school.

"Hamas has in the past fired at Israel and at troops from inside schools, making use of civilians, as is proven by UAV footage," the army said

Soldiers returned fire and multiple explosions went off, presumably emanating from munitions stored there.

The United Nations confirmed 30 were killed.

    • The Hamas military appear to be engaged in a cynical game where they diminish the humanity of the people for whom they are fighting. They take the view that there are no innocents, and that even the child and woman whom they endanger are worth turning into canon fodder in order to manipulate world opinion against Israel. But, that said. Israel can choose to rise above Hamas' behavior and not point and fire where women and children are likely taking refuge. They can do the most dangerous task that sadly this battle may require, go house to house, building to building to take control of the launch sites. Do not be confused. mortars are not missiles. They are meant to attack soldiers because they are short distance weapons. This cowardly act shown from surveillance video should have triggered a raid by ground units or should simply have been ignored. Yes, that would mean more possible Israeli casualties. But is that not morally higher than blasting a school with refugees inside? Is that not better than appearing before the world to look like butchers?

    • Let me get this straight. Muslims hijacked U.S. civilian planes and attacked the Pentagon, the World Trade Towers, and were headed for the White House before passengers gave their lives to stop them. Muslims have bombed and murdered 1000's of people through out the world (Indonesia, etc. etc., etc.) These cowardly spawn of Satan took over a cruise ship and pushed an elderly Jewish man overboard in his wheel chair , while his wife begged for mercy. They kidnapped and beheaded non combatants, on video all over the World, touting Allah is great. If this is what Allah expects then I spit in his face and all of those that follow his teachings. Muslims are the bastard children of Abraham and they need to get over it and stop blaming the world for their own inbred ignorance.

    • Perhaps Hamas should thought about the consequences of losing a War , before starting a WAR. They aren't subintelligent Little babies. But for some reason everyone wants to give them a pass. NO PASS!!! Do the Crime Do the Time!!!

Look at how many in this forum alone disagree with you. Somehow shooting missiles at cities if you are Hamas doesn't count as violence. I think part of the reason for that is how pathetic they seem for missing so often. But how many times do you let a next door neighbor miss your house with a shotgun before you call in the police? Just because they are bad shots doesn't mean their intent was not murder.

And have you noticed how they use children to throw rocks. The intifada? This is explicitly against U.N. policy. Have you ever heard a word in the media about it? Africa I have.

    • Even if Hamas is using human shields, it is NOT a justification for killing innocents. If during a conflict your enemy only kills a handful of civilians and you manage to kill scores or hundreds, you are doing something wrong.

Israel has a right to defend itself. It has NO right to collectively punish the residents of Gaza. I wish the U.N. would do something and end this bloodshed. Despite the amount of dead in Gaza, Hamas or otherwise, Israel is certainly not "winning."

I understand what you are saying about the ppl of gaza being punished for Hamas's actions but they are not only supporting but facilitating their hatred.

"The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing" (Edmund Burke). If the Palestinians feel they are being persecuted for actions done by only a few ppl, they should stand up and not allow them to happen. Untill then Isreal has the right to defend its citizens regardless off how many of them have been injured. I imagine if you calculate total death tolls from all suicide bombings, rockets, mortar fire, and gun attacks the numbers would be much closer

    • Civilian do not matter in any war, they are expandable. One great US general once said one Indian killed today need not to be kill tomorrow. The guiding light for warrior heroes they a trained with tax money to do this kind of work. And as long human heart does not change the killing will go on, till the Saints come marching in.
