Barneys Puts Their Political Preferences On Display

Barneys New York has gotten swept up in election fever. On Tuesday afternoon, workers were hanging portraits of the wives of 43 American presidents, painted by the artist Laurie Munn.

....For the window installation, Munn also painted first lady hopefuls Michelle Obama and Cindy McCain. In the portrait, Obama is smiling, while McCain is all hard angles and appears to be laughing shrilly. Could the depictions have been influenced by Barneys creative director Simon Doonan

    • Of course they're not that naive. The point is that this company is obviously favorable, and it's interesting. To me anyways. Cindy McCain looks like the botoxed Grinch who stole Christmas compared to Michelle Obama.

I'm assuming you are referring to the fact that you don't think it's news worthy. Well a lot of stuff out here is probably in that same category, but it's It's funny, it's art, and it's one the most prestigious and well known department stores in New York that has put these images on display. You should read a little further into before calling it 'a stretch'.

    • An odd post...a bit of a stretch.

Does anyone really care what appears in a store merely as window dressing?

You think Nu Yawkers are that naive? "Golly! I better not vote for that guy McCain, his wife's portrait has sharp lines!"

      Right.

A month from now, would Santa, in "Republican Red", look too Conservative during an Obama Presidency?

Or too Liberal, if laughing a lot?

      ... a stretch..
