Dane Williams was a marketing employee of the skate-inspired clothing company Hurley (the event presenter) International of Costa Mesa, California, who was reported missing on Saturday, January 26, 2008, while attending a trade event in San Diego. Williams's body was found on January 29 wrapped in a blanket in a nearby alley. Autopsy results: Investigators reported that Williams had been dead for at least 12 hours before his body was discovered. Autopsy and toxicology results returned inconclusive, citing that even though Williams had a blood alcohol level of .17, more than twice the legal limit, and that he had minimal traces of Valium in his system, the mixture was not enough to be lethal. Investigation continues:Since there was no evident signs of trauma to the body, the cause of Williams's death remains unclear. However, suspicions of homicide are strong, and police say that his body might have been placed in the alley as long as two days after his disappearance. This Surf Festival and Contest honors his life. He was 23.
