Hunting for the Homeless

Image

When Mike Aversa hunts deer in the forests of New Jersey his kill doesn't end up in his freezer but at the local food bank. vc2 producer Adam Kaufman is working on a pod that explores the unique way that Mike, his local butcher and the food bank are feeding the homeless.

    • Very cool; proves that not only dirty, liberal hippies can help their fellow man. I was also very excited to see a real "tree stand"--I've always heard about them but have never seen one!

    • We arrive at around 2pm on sunday and the venison has been in the oven since 730am that morning. Volunteer Mike Williams is proud of his creation!

    • A Hunter drops off a kill at Person's Butcher shop. The deer meat is processed here before it is donated to Norwescap Food Bank in far western New Jersey.

    • I like all your "shooting" puns, Ben. The material looks good though-- can't wait to see the finished pod! Good luck with the shoot.

    • Awesome!!! One person can only eat so much anyhow.. and the sport of hunting, well some men really like doing it. As long as the natural supply of does and enough males to keep the population strong are maintained.. I'm all for this!!!

    • Mike Aversa aims his bow into the woods of NJ this past Saturday Oct 20th...

Got back late yesterday evening from a great day of filming out in Hunterdon County, NJ. Mike gave us an insightful interview and talked in depth about his crucial role in HHH (Hunters Helping The Hungry). He then took us out on a short hunting trip and afterwards we ventured over to his local Butcher. All great material for the upcoming Pod! Josh Davis (my co-director) and I cant wait to head back west again in a couple weeks for a trip to Norwescap Food Bank where we will follow the deer meat as it is distributed to Homeless Shelters, Soup Kitchens and Food Banks throughout NJ...

Take a look at the other pics for a visual taste of what the shoot was like this past weekend...

    • Adam Kaufman here, producer of the Hunting for the Homeless VC2 Pod. Just wanted to let everyone know that me and my co-director Josh Davis are headed down to rural New Jersey this Saturday (Oct 20th) morning to meet up with Mike and film him on the hunt in his stomping grounds. Later in the afternoon we'll pay a visit to the local butcher! Should be an interesting time, so check back here soon for an update on how the first shoot goes (including some production stills)...

      Thanks!
